Now, with that said, you might be right for some specific phones depending on their thermal management. The losses turn into heat on both sides, and if the battery is allowed to get hot enough it does degrade its performance. I'm not sure anything below around 50C / 122F is cause for concern though. It's also a function of time. Keep in mind that I'm talking about the temperature of the cell, not the back of the phone. The best thing you can do for prolonging life is to avoid deeply discharging the battery. If you were always able to keep the state of charge above 50%, it would last a lot longer. It will also last longer if you don't leave it at 100% all the time, but it's not nearly as bad as letting it hit 5% all the time. If you read an article like this one, the author is wrong and doesn't understand how the charge cycles are counted and how the PMICs manage power delivery to the entire device: https://www.zdnet.com/article/iphone...able-charging/ Now, I also don't know how inefficient the wireless charging in the M2 is. It's possible that it's actually so bad you should avoid it. Last edited by chris719; 10-13-2018 at 07:50 PM.. |

A 5V 2.1A charger is not enough though to get peak wired charging performance from a new iPhone, that is only 10.2W. Apple sells a 29W charger, but it looks like the iPhone X really can draw about 18W peak from some data I saw online. |

If you're someone who regularly ends up at 2% battery and then need to get back up to 100% because you've got 8 hours of conference calls coming up, then definitely buy whatever you gotta buy. But, if you're a regular phone user, the wireless charging is just fine, and if that don't float your boat, the USB works like any other USB charger. |

Said it before.. it's been useless since incorporated in the original M2..
Used it a couple times in the 2 years I owned and then used the center console as storage only cause all it does is heat up the phone. Charges better just with a USB cable in the center console.

I remember reading an article a few years ago where one their spokespersons said on record that they didn't feel touch screen was necessary for the iDrive platform but they're going to give the people what they want.. https://www.cnet.com/roadshow/news/b...sture-control/ https://www.autocar.co.uk/car-news/n...ainment-system |

All details aside, it is at best as fast as the Apple "slow" charger and significantly slower than a 10W+ fast charger. USB is a clusterfck of a spec. Personally, for my Google Pixel I would use a USB-C 15W charger instead of the built-in port. |

I've had several instances in my M2C of my iPhone XS getting hot to the point of down-throttling the CPU and it being unable to sustain Carplay or even the Spotify music that was playing. This was while I was using Google Maps for navigation and wireless charging.
I'm going to give a USB cable a go. |

Very old thread but yeah this happens to me with iphone x as well. I basically gave up on using it and will just charge via USB instead. It's faster and doesn't overheat the phone.
I realized the wireless charger was bad news when gmaps over carplay stopped updating my position. I realized I had driven way past the turn/instruction point and then when I picked up my phone it was just incredibly hot and super laggy. And what's worse is the phone was barely charging. USB on the other hand "just works". Bummer. I liked the idea of wireless charging. Glad it's not just me I guess...was starting to worry maybe it was my phone's fault. |
