Humming noise from under the hood?!

Hi guys,

yesterday I realized a humming noise which seems to have it's source under the hood. It's happening intermittently, no matter if the the car is locked or if it's unlocked and the hood is open. Sometimes it is quite regular happening every 10 seconds, sometimes the pause in between seems to be longer. Sometimes it does not happen at all.

Does anyone have an idea what this might be?

Never heard that, can you hear inside the car or only when you open engine bay.

Never heard it. Is the car fully turned off when this happens? Regardless, its not normal and shouldn't happen.

No clue what it could be, but that doesn't sound like anything I've ever heard come out of my car.

Yes, it is fully turned off. Locking/ unlocking doors seems to make no difference. Yesterday I heard the sound for roughly one or two hours and then without doing anything it stopped.

Looks like I should pay my dealer a visit.

Did you run over a midget on his way to choir practice?

This is shot in the dark but I believe there might be an electrical short with the horn..

It's easy for it to get water intrusion and begin to fail.

If the sound persists, that might be a place to start checking.

That sounds like coil whine of some kind. Very odd indeed.

OK thank you for sorting this out. I'll consider this my next car modification

Today I did not use the car and there was no noise as well. Also unlocking and locking it did not start the noise.

Mine makes the same noise. Noticed when spraying water around the grille area during the last wash. No idea what it is. Doesn't seem to affect anything. I'll wait for it to get worse or more frequent before I try to diagnose.

I was driving mine quite a lot in the last days since I have a week of holiday. Not a single time it made the noise again.
