It had an upgraded turbo (GTX 2867R) and was running 375 WHP through the front wheels. It was on AirLift performance suspension, had a minimalist trunk setup, CCW Classic wheels, upgraded audio etc. The tuner car scene is pretty big up here, so that was what kind of lead me towards that path of building a "show car". I owned the Focus ST for about three and a half years before I was starting to get bored of it and wanted something a little more performance oriented. The whole front-wheel drive aspect was driving me nuts, and putting the power down just became a chore and not very fun. By this time the M2 had been out for about a year or so, and I loosely started looking for one in April of 2017. Turns out the local dealership (Birchwood BMW) had a Black Sapphire Metallic M2 built exactly how I wanted coming in. It was already built and sitting at port in Europe! Without hesitation I scooped it up and the wait was on. June 26th, 2017, I signed the papers and picked up my brand new M2! I originally had told myself I wouldn't modify it, minor cosmetic mods sure, but nothing performance oriented. I wanted to keep the warranty intact, so if I went any route for mods it would be the Dinan route. Funny how that changed... slightly . MODIFICATION PATH Right now as far as power goes, the car is putting down 374wHP, 452wTQ. Don't get me wrong, this is a fun amount of horsepower and allows me to enjoy it in the city - however I find that past 5500 RPM the thrill is sort of lacking. On this dyno graph, RunFile 002 is my stock baseline. RunFile 005 and 006 are FBO with the JB4. Now I enjoyed this JB4 setup for about a month before winter hit and the car went into storage. Over winter the Bootmod3 platform was starting to grow and became very appealing. In December I removed the DME and sent it off to be unlocked. When I got it back I quickly flashed the proTUNING Freaks Stage 2 OTS map. Now unfortunately there was quite a bit of snow still on the ground, and I didn't want to subject the M2 to all the road salt so I had to wait until Spring to really put this flash tune to the test. Fast forward a few months to March of 2018 - the snow here in Winnipeg was basically gone and I was finally able to feel how a true flash tune felt on the M2. Long story short it felt nothing short of incredible, the power delivery was smooth, the burbles were just right, and it felt like the car picked up much better at low RPM. Unfortunately this wasn't enough to fill that void of high RPM torque which is exactly the reason I have decided to go with PureTurbos Stage 2 Turbo! April 9th, 2018, I rolled the car into the garage, got it high enough on jack stands to work comfortably, and began to remove the OEM turbo. While doing this I was in contact with Peter@PureTurbosEU Darkiedm4 and he was able to put together my entire order as well as coordinate everything with PureTurbos USA and Fuel-It despite him being located across the pond in Europe! He made the ordering, shipping, and OEM turbo removal process much easier and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend him to someone looking to upgrade their turbo! I also have to give a shoutout to Charles over at PureTurbos USA for keeping me up to date with the turbo upgrade process. As of right now the OEM turbo has been removed and is currently in PureTurbos USA's hands. I plan on running an MHD back end flash and using the JB4 to control the boost as well as Fuel-It Port Methanol Injection. I'm currently in the process of waiting for PureTurbos to upgrade my OEM turbo core, and my Fuel-It order to arrive. I should hopefully have both of those items by the weekend and be able to update this journal as the install and tuning progresses! Enjoy!

Turbo removal was pretty simple. Nothing was incredibly difficult - there was just a LOT of steps involved. It took me and a buddy about 5 hours to remove - I imagine the install will be about the same. We took our time, bagged every bolt, and double checked our work.
The hardest part of the install was honestly securing the engine for the motor mount removal. Not because the task was difficult, but rather getting over the nerves that the motor wasn't about to fall onto the subframe lol.

I have a feeling you'll be breaking 600whp if you push hard enough and have a happy reading dynojet.

I'm curious to see how the M2 handles the Pure Stage 2 turbo. We know it has improved flow characteristics and improved internals when compared to a "normal" N55 - just not sure of where that limit actually is!

I've been searching around to see if many M2's have gone this route and was only able to find the one done by Norcalmav23 and a couple non-forum users in the F-Series PS2 thread on a different forum.

Great work. Good luck and have fun.
Is there a possibility to go wider than 275s on the rear tires?

You'd have to go to a higher positive offset to accompany a 295 without rubbing, but it can be done!

Nicely done. I love it when people wrench on their own cars and are not afraid! Good work.
We need more people like you on here. Question: How are you going to resync the wastegate learning after a turbo replacement? This is done via OBD2 scan tool.

As far as the EWG learning - I'm not 100% certain if this will work, but I've taken very good photos of the EWG position prior to removal as well as marked the EWG arm and adjusting nuts from where they were on the OEM turbo. I'm going to do my best to line them up when I get the turbo back and hope that it is enough to satisfy the DME. If it isn't, I have access to ISTA at home so I could try it myself. Alternatively, I'm very close with my dealership and can just have them do the procedure for me using BMW ISTA. When I hit that part of the install, I'll definitely be sure to make note of it! Appreciate it! I wish I had a picture of all the bags of bolts - I'll get one and upload it lol. Each and every bolt is labelled and thrown into individual zip-lock bags. Didn't want to mix anything up or lose anything!
