M2C last available purchase date

With the CS confirmed, does that completely replace the current M2C? I wouldn't expect so, due to the low production volume expected from the CS. Or will the M2C continue until the next gen?

I'm saving for new/ED and I'm at least a year out from being ready to pull the trigger. It'd be helpful to know how long they are expected to be in production! When is the latest I could purchase one?

No. Will not replace. M2C will be in production until 6/2021.

Do we know when ordering for the MY2021 m2c will open up? Or does anyone have a guess based on the 2020 manufacturing going to June, and I’m guessing 2021 to start in July?

Trying to decide if I order a 20 or 21 with ED...

I believe the M2 operates like the M4 and the switchover to the next model year happens in February and not June.

here's the data I'm seeing regarding a june end of production for model year 2020:
https://f30.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1655256

and the 2021 june end of production date for the F87 in general can be seen in this forum in a few threads.

shrug. I wish it was Feb, so I could get a 2021 earlier.

Good call, forgot about this chart. So I was right that it changed over for 2020 after February of 2019 but totally wrong that it's not the same for 2021. Thanks!

It does seem odd that 2020 has a 15 month production cycle overall.

I wonder when we will get details on what changes are in 2021... my big decision is whether to grab a euro delivery 2020 in the spring or wait til fall for a 2021. :/ not sure which way to go now...

My take, no changes will come at all. No need to for last production year.

For ED I would say do it when you want to and when it works best for your schedule. Nothing "new" that could be offered in the 2021 will sour the ED experience or make any real practical difference. Plus, given a lot of dealers reluctance to do ED for the M2C I wouldn't try to strategize for 2021 allocations if a perfect 2020 comes up in the timeframe you want.

I believe the next generation M2 will be produced in Mexico, so it's a good idea to go ahead with ED by 2021.

Wouldn't it be better to wait for next gen m2 than to take the final year production car? By the time I'm ready it'll likely be late next year and I can't decide if it'll be better to just wait a little more.

totally your call. next gen M2 will probably have the automatic transmission and not DCT if that matters. it will be built in Mexico and there won't be ED offered. but it will be better car for sure and reports are they will keep the manual. I guess we would need to wait for the next gen 2 series coupe to be released to see what new tech they put in. one more fear is next gen m2 might not have the new M4 engine but something lesser maybe. Next gen m2 launch date is aug 2022 or 2023? that's 2-3 years away.

you'll be waiting a while. I would think 3 years before you can get your hands on one, then you'll wish you waited for the LCI version instead.

Looking at the used car market, the last model year usually is the most desirable, and you can get a good deal usually.

New models, LCI's, minor resale variances based on the model year...there's always the next big thing, or one consideration or another. At some point, the trigger has to be pulled or it won't ever be.

I took a pass on Z4 M coupe, E61 m-sport 6 speed, and 1M over the years because I always felt something better would come along. Regretted passing on each one......wasn't going to let it happen again on M2C.

This seems to be the defacto argument. Yet, nowhere does it indicate that quality will be decreased if production is moved to Mexico.

Companies moving manufacturing offshore follows the same principles as their home country. The only thing a company is taking advantage of is labor arbitrage. Quality does not necessary suffer. In fact, when new manufacturing plants are built from the ground up, it typically increases in quality than a manufacturing plant that was designed years ago.

I know it's still hard for some people to differentiate the country of origin and quality, but it's not founded in facts.

Agree 100% percent. Given modern manufacturing standards, yield targets, consistency in supply chain and EF rates, coupled with the increased reliance on machinery vs artisan skill in automotive manufacturing any perceived "quality" difference based on the country of assembly is purely based on internal bias and not facts. There is no evidence that there is any degradation in quality from one plant to the next in the automotive context for the same types of vehicles from the same OEM based purely on the nationality or location of the workforce. If the same company is spinning up factories around the world with the same logistical, assembly, and processes standards and procedures, any actual quality difference would be if marginal if not null.

Just because an OEM wants to save shipping costs and pay a worker the market rate for their geography that may be less than another factory, doesn't then automatically mean that Jose cannot follow directions and procedures as good as Claus.

If the new generation M2 is not released by 6/2021, would that then mean that we can't purchase this car after that date passes? So would there potentially be risk of dealerships running out of allocations if we purchase too close to the EOP date?

I've been mulling a 2020 v. 2021 M2C. The two thoughts were A) potential changes and B) more time go "get things right" for small design errors on the car.

And then I thought-- "Screw it. I'm not getting any younger." And, I intend to keep the car pretty much forever.

So, waiting to hear back on pricing from a few dealers, then will place an order on a 2020 M2C.

I'm already looking at mods/parts!

I like your philosophy! I've been thinking about the exact same thing if I decide to pass on the CS. I honestly believe they have all the design issues figured out. This generation of the 2 series and the M2 has been out for awhile now. Also the fact that it uses the M3/M4 parts, it's pretty stable.

The only thing that sways me to wait for 2021 is the possible inclusion of adaptive suspension and maybe some merino seats. But not holding my breath for this to happen.

It won't be.

Correct, except ones on the lot.

Correct, higher risk of no more allocations if wait too close to EOP.
