M2 Leasing Residual
Anyone have any idea of what kind of residual the M2 will have? I know the 2015 F80 M3 had a pretty good residual. M2 might be on my map for a 2-3 year lease if the residual is high and the resale is good like the 1M coupe was.

My guess the M2 will lease similar to the M3/M4 but only after the 1st year of production. The first year leases will probably be poor especially as they are trying to market this as 'limited' like the 1M (which it is not). |

I would see what the M3/M4 lease numbers were upon introduction.....the M2 will probably fall somewhere in between. |

in 2014 for the 2015 models the M3 had a 58% residual for 36 months and 10k miles.

Residuals are often artificially inflated at the end of a MY to move stock and keep orders flowing.
If the M2 comes in at 56-58% for 36 mo 10k mi/year, I'd consider it lucky.

I'm also very interested in what the residuals will be. It's too early to know, but let's hope it's no less than 60% for 10k miles. 65% would be ideal.
Both the MSRP and the residual will determine if this will be my next car.

Usually the residuals are the same as the comparable top-non-M model. FYI for the current M235i it is 57%, which isn't great.
Super rough calulations here but a 36m/10k lease of a $55k car at current residual would be roughly $775, where @60% would be $725 and 65% would be $650. |

I will probably option it closer between $57-$59k and I'm wanting to get US invoice pricing. I'll be using the 7MSD as well as doing ED for the 2017 model, so if the residuals are 60-65% my rough estimates will bring a very low payment between $625 and $655 after taxes. But if it's as you say comparable to current M235i residuals (which are terrible) I'll be getting the M4.

But if what we suspect that MSRP will be, will hold true at $51k, and if the residuals are no less than 60% for 10k miles, then you could load it up to $60k with options, do MSDs with ED with a good enough discount and still get a low payment. Unfortunately that's a lot of variables that we just don't know as yet and I don't want a stripper M2.

Also ED might be cheaper but it will cost how many thousands to go on the trip. So it kind of defeats getting the car cheaper. |

If the car is really 51K, and let's say by chance of a miracle residual is 65% like the F80 M3 and you do ED then the payment could be 500'ish.
Vehicle purchase price with 7% ED discount- $47,430 Residual 65% based on 51K- $33,150 Money Factor .00130 Sales tax in TX- 6.25% Payment would be $532.75 for 36 months or $501.42 if you live in a state with no tax like Oregon. |

If you decide you want to make a trip of it then a large part of the trip is paid for with the ED discount. I just did that on a 2016 M3, it was a blast but I was due for a vacation anyway. |

If you get the same $55k MSRP car for $500 over invoice it should be around $51.6k and took advantage of 7 MSDs. 57% residual would be ~$635, 60% would be $590 and 65% would be $514. If you were doing ED and got $500 over ED invoice it will be around 49.2k and took advantage of 7 MSDs. 57% residual would be ~$590, 60% would be $550 and 65% would be $470. As you can see, sub-$500/mo is possible, but not likely to happen until $500 over ED invoice deals are available. I'm hoping to keep mine under $600, else it will push into F80 territory. |

If the residuals are low, it may not be the end of the world. There will be so few of these cars that they may hold value really well. If you did ED and MSDs with a decent out the door price, you might be way ahead at the end of the three years if the car leases really poorly.
