It's weird because my m2 has bluetooth music, and since Canadian cars come fully loaded with everything except transmission choice, sunroof and a few other small things your m2 should have it too.

Maybe you should check in the idrive menu if you have bluetooth music streaming enabled.

There are two ways of connecting the phone - just bluetooth for phone or full integration (car play)

When pairing with Bluetooth there should be an option for Bluetooth audio. This is how I would pair devices.

Chances are you have CarPlay then. If you have CarPlay, the car will want to sync with your phone using that and in the process disables Bluetooth options for your phone. If you don't have CarPlay then Bluetooth connectivity should work without any issues.

Follow the video posted above or have someone help you. Connecting to a phone for the first time is a short process to link and save that phone. Look through the iDrive menu in devices and follow the appropriate tasks from there. It's kind of self explanatory once you get into the menu

Nope I didn't opt for car play (I speced my m2 since it was factory ordered) plus I have an Android phone.

Also carplay connects via WiFi, and if that's disabled on your phone car play won't work.

Mention this issue to your dealer, you might get the latest software update for free. Most of the time it's related to the software or it's just needs a refresh..

I don't have Carplay, so I bought an oem snap-in adaptor and an iPhone 5 SE to stream Napster through the iDrive interface..

It's closest thing to CD quality sound. Bluetooth streaming although it's convenient, some of the audio quality is lost over a wireless signal. The technology just hasn't caught up to transferring perfect audio.

A direct connection like USB or a Snap-in adaptor is best way to ensue the highest quality of audio.

Updates can be done easily without setting foot into the stealership.

No issues with blue tooth, but just as easy to play from a USB stick, and then your phone is free to use (not while driving of course!!)

I was never able to get my Pixel 2 XL to stream music via bluetooth. I even went to the dealership, they couldn't get it working in my car or other cars they had on the lot. Calls and messages and everything else works though. I gave up and uploaded my songs to the internal hdd. But that sucks cause I have to re-import every time I add new music to my collection. My music collection is synced to my phone and all my home computers, so it would be easier if I could get bluetooth music to work.

That's not the type of update I was referring to. I meant an entire ISTEP firmware update, not just the phone compatible flash with the USB drive, with does not address Bluetooth streaming.

my pixel 2 XL streams music just fine. However once in a while it connects but no audio will play and I have to disconnect or forget the phone then re add it, very annoying, happens once a month.

I second this verbatim, down to the occasional media connection drop requiring flipping off/on in iDrive
