New owner - some questions

Hi all,

Just bought a second hand 0 km M2 old generation. Traded it with an Audi RS3.
Still breaking it in so can't write impressions but it is very clear that it is a much worse daily. It's much stiffer and the weight of the wheel is unbelievable compered to the RS3's one. A new M2C costs here 161K USD so couldn't afford one.
Couldn't fine the lock/unlock doors button? Is there one?

Just seen a youtube video that the annoying rear parking sensor is something that is part of this car and not something wrong with mine.

Is the lumbar support adjustment an option? Doesn't have that in mine.

Isn't there an easy exit/entry?

Thanks in advance!

Did you drive the M2 1st? I mean, that would have given you all the answers that you would have needed to make your decision.

Unlock door button (it's white) is right below the center vents.

No lumbar adjustment.

Don't know what the problem is w/ the parking sensors.

Easy exit/entry? Don't get that one.

Here's a photo of where the lock/unlock button is...

You can download a program that allows you to make numerous changes to your M2... have side mirrors automatically fold/unfold when you lock/unlock the car, eliminate the need to always confirm when you get that warning message upon start-up... you can also set the car to move the drivers seat all the way back, when you shut off the car, and automatically move the seat to drivers position 1, upon startup.

You'll need to download BimmerCode, or some other app, and purchase an OBD device, to allow BimmerCode to connect to your car.

It's very easy to do! I've configured my M2 so the mirrors fold/extract automatically upon locking and unlocking my car.

The M2 is NOT designed for long distance cruises... it's a sports car, with suspension set up for taking tight curves, more then bumpy, pot hole filled roads... If you're not going to take curves fast, if you're unhappy with a stiff ride where you feel the road, this may not have been the best car for you!

I drove several Audi's prior to ordering my M2... they didn't compare, in the areas where I wanted them to perform! But that's me... everyone is different.

I'm fortunate that I have a Lexus for when I'm planning on driving to San Diego or Santa Barbara (although, more often then not, I still end up taking my M2)... but plenty of people use their M2's as daily drivers, and are very happy with it.

First, thanks a lot, guys!
Found the button myself while driving an hour ago. Thanks for pointing me, anyway.
I think I wasn't clear enough. I wasn't trying to say that I hate the stiff ride. I'm sure it'll compensate while spirited driving in twisty roads and tracks.
There's no test drive on an M car where I live (not in the US) and still people buy M cars :-).

I have another question. During the day time, the gauge cluster is too dark. Haven't found the button that brighten it up. Can you please assist?

Thanks

"The M2 is NOT designed for long distance cruises."

I drove my car 26 hrs. one week recently ShelJW but, I get what you're saying.

I actually absolutely *love* the stiff ride of my car in fact, I run 2 Lbs. over the recommended PSI for the tires.

Helps a bunch w/ tread life too.

And as you say - "Everyone's different."

All I can say is that after almost 26K miles that I've been fortunate enough to have driven it, this car is awesome.

Another question.
Coming from an RS3, the oil consumption was one of the main reason I wanted to replace it. For example, I had an A45 AMG and an ATS-V and in both, I didn't need to fill up even one drop of oil. In the RS3, in 8 months of owning, I filled up more than 3 times full tank. What about the M2?

I am 13 months into ownership of my M2. I haven’t added a drop of oil.

The parking sensor thing, do you mean the beeping sound keeps beeping after you've parked, until the engine is off?

If so, there is a fix for that, requires a different part that adds a button to turn off the parking sensors, reverse camera, and stop the beeping at will.

This was pretty much the first and single most useful mod I've done to my OG M2!

As for stiff ride, that's a personal preference.

You could try replacing suspension, to one with adjustable dampening, like the Ohlins. Set it to be soft for daily driving, and stiffer for spirited runs. Just need to turn a clicker but requires getting the wheels off the ground to do it.

I daily my M2. 37,000 miles of long distance road trips - bought the car in California and drove it 3000 miles home the next 3 days! - and taking kids to school. Never felt it was a bad daily or a stiff ride, but also didnt expect the level of comfort that one would get from daily driving a 5 or 7 series, for example.

About oil, same here - have never had to top it off on the M2.

My previous M cars required a quart every 5k miles.

Exactly this.
You are the second one in this thread that suggest using third party object/software to fix issues. I have to say that I'm a bit scared to do things on my own.

Thanks a lot, anyway!

You can't compare it to a 5 or 7 series. You can compare it to a cla45 and an RS3. Both are less stiffer.
It also depends what were you driving before...

That's not good. I was afraid to read such comment.
How did you, mostly, drove your previous M cars and how do you, mostly, drive the M2? I'm asking because I heard from other VAG owners and RS3 owners in particular that if you do not pass the 4K rpm mark too often, your oil consumption should be OK. Unfortunately, this is not the case here. I pass the 4K mark quite often.

Thanks

For those who still don't understand what is the sensors issue, you can see in this video from 1:50 minute:

It is an OEM part, not 3rd party. The install is super easy, but you can always pay a professional if you're not comfortable.

I drive the shit out of all my cars, the way they are meant to be driven. Not babying them. Including track days, when I can.

If anything I drive the M2 harder than my previous X6M and M3. Especially on canyon/mountain trips. There is no babying here, at all.

The E71 X6M (with S63tu V8 TT engine) just drank oil, as did my E93 M3 (with S65 NA V8 engine).

Again, my OG M2 (with N55 I6 single turbo) does not. 37,000 miles, never had to top off the oil. Maybe it's something to do with the BMW V8. I don't know.

Anyway, it's not a concern.

Also anyone that buys an M or RS or AMG and does not "pass 4k rpm" should be driving a 1996 Toyota Camry instead, lol.

I was not comparing an M2 to 5/7 series -- I was stating that my expectations were in line for what the M2 is, as far as ride comfort goes.

That being said, I have never driven an RS3 so can't say much about it how it compares to an M2.

That sounds much better

Hopefully I'll not need to open the engine cover at all. As in both my mercs and other Japanese and Koreanese cars I have owned.

As for not passing the 4K mark, I cannot agree more!

I actually like the parking sensors. It helps a lot not to hit anything while parking.
I'll check with the local service if they can help with what ddk632 suggested

Thanks
