What jumps out at me are the 2 biggest weight gains - both of which I don't want or need. - especially the exhaust.

Amazing that the brakes are so much heavier, when generally you want to reduce unsprung weight.

Sorry, but the 31 lb exhaust gain is all fat/no muscle.

Seriously. A 32lbs gain from the exhaust is ridiculous, especially on the US version without the OPF. The remus catback on my n55 has dual piping and it weighs 2.5 pounds LESS than the stock single unit did. What the hell did they make the M2C exhaust out of? Lead?

Lol..

Judging from how hard it is to cut, I'm guessing it's a really thick steel - and it takes a lot of elbow grease to penetrate with a pipe cutter, even takes a minute with a power circular saw..

I guess its made like that to prevent rusting.. :

Just keep in mind a light titanium or magnesium dual exhaust setup is going to cost like 10k, OEM..

And that price is not dropping anytime soon due to the current trade war on raw material..

I feel you, but my exhaust is made from plain old T304 stainless steel. No reason Bmw couldn't have made their oem unit weigh a bit less IMO. I guess with 2 sets of primary and secondary cats you can't avoid adding some weight but still...32 pounds?! Inexcusable.

I suspect that some of that is pure guesswork (or indeed, just wrong), noting that the aluminium and CF engine bay braces of the M2C are described as steel and CF...

I would note another magazine is still asserting that the rear suspension is different, whereas the part numbers are identical...

Extra 32lbs for the exhaust isn't that surprising to me considering dual downpipe, dual midpipe, and the fugly enormous muffler of M2C.

Here's some more weight info from BMW ETK:

OG M2 downpipe: 7.89lbs
OG M2 midpipe: 21.5lbs
OG M2 muffler: 24.78lbs

M2C downpipes (total weight of the two): 16.3lbs (8.4lbs difference compared to OG M2)

I don't have weight figures on M2C midpipe and muffler since BMW ETK hasn't released them yet but the following pics speak for themselves:

OG M2 midpipe:

M2C midpipe:

OG M2 muffler:

M2C muffler:

^Now that's a proper looking exhaust.

Makes the OG M2 exhaust look like it's been taken from an M135i. Apart from 4 tips, almost identical.

They should've make it from thinner steel and ceramic coat it to help tolerate the heat, or go aluminum + ceramic coating.

Personally I don't care about the look of the exhaust, the simpler and lighter it is the better. The more complicated ones weight alot.

The MPE for the OG M2 looks better. I'm not sure about the weight difference, but when installing it, didn't feel much heavier than stock.

My guess is the "exhaust" includes the extra turbo and extra cats. It does add up.

The brakes? Yikes! That's a lot of gained rotational inertia.

It's the calipers not the disk, the calipers don't rotate, so no additional rotational intertia added, just unsprung weight.

The brakes are a rather unfortunate change for both those who do not track the car (calipers / rotors too big for 18" snows) and those who are really good drivers who will still destroy the 2NH brakes on track.

Everything else is as expected and no big deal. 30 lbs at the bottom of a 3400-3500 lb car is nothing (exhaust).
