Oil Temperature Gauge

I cannot for the life of me figure out how to display Oil Temp on my '20 M2C. I tried using the scroll through button, which is between the M1/M2 buttons, but that scroll through button does not do anything for me on my instrument cluster. I've tried this while parked, but no dice.

Does this mean...that button is broken?!

Looks like I have to play with the buttons on the left stalk of the steering column and not the buttons on the steering wheel.

Right. I assume you found it. I have the oil temp gauge display on all the time. While I would love a dedicated gauge like all M cars (or at least all that I have owned), at least it is there.

Like why the beep do they tell me the HP and TQ numbers but not have another pages with oil temp, pressure, and water temp, IAT etc.

All the new idrive 7 cars have a better "performance page" than any F8X car grr.

One solution is to use an old iPod, iPhone or Android with something like this...

https://f87.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh...mance+analyzer

or one of the electronic gauges that install in the air vent.

Im aware but I find it redic that BMW sucks at this when FCA can make a kickass system from the factory and a damn Renault has had it for over a decade.

Yeah, I'd rather have a digital speedo displayed 90 percent of the time, but oh well. Gotta know when the car is warmed up!

Where does your temperature usually stand? I drove around for ~30 minutes in ~40F weather, and the temperature gauge was not in the middle. It was however a little bit above the 1/4 marker on the gauge (and in all other cars that I have driven, the temperature gauge sets up at the 1/2 line perfectly)

If you were in Sport+, the additional oil cooling was operating and keeping oil temps low. Drive around in comfort/sport to get oil up to higher operating temps.

In Sport +. the oil temp is at the 1/4 mark. In comfort, about 2-3 smaller markers warmer. It will not (should not) get to the middle mark during normal driving.

Thank you for the info! I won't know for a while though...had 2 CELs in the 1st week of owning the car, and then a tow truck hit my car while my car was in for service...

I normally just drive in Sport+ right away (but I don't push it until it's warmed up)...is this bad? Should I be driving in Comfort until it warms up and then go to Sport+?

It's your car, do what makes you sleep the best at night. Technically speaking, I highly doubt it HURTS anything. AFAIK, Sport+ enables "max cool" mode (or whatever it is called), so it'll take your car longer to heat up when cold. Nothing innately wrong with that. I personally use Comfort while it's cold, and once temps reach around 180, if I want to, then I will switch over to Sport+.

Nothing wrong with it, other than it requires more patience for it to get up to temp. All it takes is about 10 minutes of regular driving in comfort to get there, then it's Sport+ time!

I don't know why BMW didn't include an independent oil temp gauge, pretty lame on a car this expensive and built for what it is.

Glad I got the electronic steering wheel installed at the port, can't say I would enjoy the car as much without it, though I've not experienced it either. On top of all of the fun, the shift lights make it so much cooler, on top of the oil/lap/G readout, highly recommend it!

Nothing wrong really, execept it's much harder to be easy on the gas in sport+

The throttle and boost map in sport+ is very aggressive so its easy to to put a deceptively high load on a cold motor if you are not super super careful.

i just leave it in comfort as its a more gentle map for an easy warm up.

I always have the oil temp gauge displayed til car is warmed up, then I switch to digital speedometer because my height and steering wheel placement obscure the top half of the display cluster.

I'm in 30f right now, and my oil temp isn't even registering after driving around for 30 minutes.
