If the price starts at 65k, the new 2016 CLA45 would look like a much better option Or even a slightly used e92 M3 at this point.

The RS3 is coming to canada...but later next year.

At 65K base, I am out as well...for that $$ you can land a nice cayman s...albeit, few years old...

i just wish these other competitors like audi and merc would have a manual transmission oh well

assuming the 65K does not come with options like GPS even paying an extra 8K for a new cayman S would be better imo

I found a e90 m3 sedan with 51,000kms, one owner full maintenance records and winter tires. Manual, executive package only, 6 speed, no nav or idrive for 37.5k. I am thinking its a better deal then a new m2.,

Maybe... I owned an E92 M3 and I would not buy this E90 unless I couldn't afford the M2. But that's subjective... the tech in the E90 is very old, the M2 is reportedly faster on the track (given the 'Ring time being faster than the older gen M3), IMO the E90 M3 isn't attractive (compared to the F80 which is), it won't have a warranty, etc. Having said that, value is in the eye of the beholder.

Personally, I'd take a new M2 over an E9X even if the M2 is a little more $$ but that's just my view.

Many are predicting the e90/e92 to be a collectors car down the road. Prices on the e92 ZCPs have held on to their value quite well.

Not sure this the F80/F82 will be all that special if BMW continues to dilute the market with more half breed ///m cars. Despite saying this, I am actively looking for an m4 haha

Not disputing the value or awesomeness of the E90/92... having owned two of them, I just don't see me picking one over a new car these days. You sacrifice a lot (in features AND performance) versus what you can buy now. It's just preference really

There are pros and cons for every purchase. The fact that it's 30k less and has 4 doors for my young family is the main reason I am going this route. The fact the e90 has good reviews for reliability also factored in my decision. I can drive this for 4 years and trade in with still decent equity as most of the depreciation hit is gone. Also the m2 will not be limited production like 1M. My dealership verified today.

Test drove a Cayman s (2014)...wow.
This m2 better be something special.
The Cayman was out of my budget but maybe worth the wait for it to be within range..in a year or 2. Not sure I can stomach not having something fun to drive in the meanwhile though.

I think there's no doubt that the M2 will be something special in its market segment.
However, don't expect a reasonably large 4-seater coupé with lots of real-world-practicality to outperform a purposeful, low-slung, lightweight, two-seater sports-car in terms of driving dynamics (and especially not if said sports car plays in a higher price range).

gt350 starts at 63k bone stock with recaro seats
and believe me it is worth every penny.

if M2 starts 65k I say that is insane. I drove the M235i on the track, and the N55 is strong and smooth for sure, but it just can't compare with that 526HP FPC

At that price, im going to have to hold off. I was really hoping for under 60k, especially with no M specific engine or seats...

I hope their information is wrong though.

I agree 100%. Not apples to apples. Just saying, if msrp is anywhere close to what I can possibly pick up a used 981 for....all bets are off. The 'practical' me takes a back seat ...oh wait...no back seat

Where I live, the Cayman S base price is already above the price of a well-equipped M2 and just about everything on the car is an expensive option. And forget about the GTS - that has a higher base price than even the M4...
Also, while I don't need four doors, I do need four seats and a bit of luggage space – hence I'm not really in the market for a two-seater sports car.

However, if I could ignore price and practicality, I'd have booked a Cayman S test drive months ago and I can understand everyone who goes down that route.

The pricing will be very, very close to the 1M, if not the same. Thats the case in the EU and I think it will be the same in the US.

Is it exactly 1M pricing in EU or 1M + inflation?

I believe US pricing was announced around 12/10 for the 1M before the January show.

I would say its 1M + a very low inflation. In Sweden its 1M+6000kr(about 800usd). So expect price to be 500-1.5k usd more expensive than the 1M.

Im 1000000% sure of this.
