They can reach all they want. If the car is limited, people will still grab a 235 unless they're willing to wait or are already on a waiting list. It all comes down to production numbers now. A dealer an hour away from me said their wait list is already 50 deep... Yikes
Kracken is correct.

We have ( those of us that were here ! ) Already seen it happen ....5 years ago :-)

The car is priced correctly. With limited production owners that do not want to wait will F off and buy a 240 or go up to the m3/m4 which will be able to be discounted ( sometimes very healthily) by the dealer.

There is no such thing as a "Fantastic deal" when it comes to cars there is just a lot less worse then the previous one you made.

Very exited for the release today!!!

My 1m has been a fantastic deal.

Period.

So is the M2. Go look at the price of what the e46m3 was with a competition package back in the day.

Assume $3k increase over 1M in US.

Means ~A$130k for the Aussies drive away factoring in the AUD tanking too.
I can't see it being 130k. 1M was 105k driveaway. Given the recent price drop of M3 now at 152k you get can get one at 140k . If M2 is 130 then M3 is much better value. I predict 115k
I was expecting $115k drive away given the competition with the CLA45 relative to its positioning around the world in the segment.

Still not confident though.

I'd say a fair share of dealers can not mark up the price of vehicles though. Not much to worry about there IMO.
I thought all dealers could set their own sale price. Is that not true for BMW dealerships?
Due to certain markets and parent companies that each individual dealer belong to. MSRP mark ups are not allowed. I remember when the i8 came out people were calling from all over because we had ours priced at MSRP.

Hence the price diff in the merc situation.

I had guessed the M2 would price 54-56k!!!! The 51k price is awesome!!!!!
Amen!! Damn good price. Give me a DCT and I'm driving it off the lot; no other options needed. Those old plans to maybe snatch up a GLA 45 AMG? Maybe not.

So, for people like me who were looking for a new 335is in 2011 - at around a $48K base price, but were amenable to a great deal on on a CPO E9x M3 or C63 AMG.......this is perfect!

Don't have to go for the 'poor man's' M3 or M3 Jr., if you will, and can get a real deal M2.

So as I mourn the loss of the 335is (is that now the M-sport?), I rejoice at the opportunity to get back into the reborn Ultimate Driving Machine - the M2.

Nice strategy, BMW. Move the 3 a half-class up in terms of luxury and dimensions........to something like a 5-Series Jr., therefore capturing more of the mass market. We know; it's all about sales. Make that money!!

Then drop the 2-series in general, but most importantly this M2 in particular, on those who thought you'd lost your way. Brilliant!! Make mine black, thank you very much.

This is a good price? I. can understand the appeal of the car... but not the price.

So for 11k more you get a better engine, a cf roof, real sport seats, extensive use of cf on a body and an extra 80 hp... not sure about good price here.

And M suspension linkages, LSD, beefier anti sways, stiffer subframe and differential bushings, and probably more that I'm missing

Where'd you get 11k? I get 7k when I subtract 44k from 51k.

Right...but that, to me is "dealer-speak" because you're going to pay it anyway...so looking at the price without destination is like justifying a purchase without calculating tax...it's going to be in there.

just sayin...

$51K is a great price if true; a small part of me wishes that I'd held off on getting the M235i (should arrive in Newark in a week or two!), but my current car is on its last legs and I couldn't wait another 1-2 years to get an M2 after the initial markup shenanigans. Plus I already had a trip to Germany planned in September for a friend's wedding, so I got to do ED without making a special trip.

What do you guys think the ED price for the M2 will be?

EDIT: I'm thinking that the smart money may have been to wait for the CPO M235i's to come in. :/
