Adventures in Service Departmenting

Had to drop off car for inspection and battery drain/charge issue.

Just got a call saying "hey just want to let you know we're looking into that issue but also we're going to need to fix a wheel and replace a tire on your car due to a mishap putting it on the lift..."

Maybe I'll get a new car after they drive it off a cliff while there.

Hmmm, not a good call to get. Basically someone hit a big pot hole "test driving" your car. What kind of lift mishap?? A simple curbing wouldn't need a tire replaced. Did you get the details of how it happened? Also, you ok with a fixed wheel? I'd go look at the damage and ask for a new one. Also a new tire to pair across the new one (assuming the other in the pair has mileage on it)

I'm not worried about it.
They've done a great job for me in the past.
I was standing in the service bay when it was put on the lift but didn't see it hit. It was on the driver's side.

Tires have 4K on them.
I think it'll be okay.
I was more concerned about the battery showing 3 volts....

Then that makes sense. My dealer would never allow anyone near the service bay...LOL

I'm sure I wasn't supposed to be there but I kind of wander off sometimes.

cameras are your friend.
buy a cheap used go pro, put a decent memory card on it...

mount it in a location so that you can see the driver and what is generally going on.

turn it on when you get out of the car. you should be about to record for several hours.

also, implicitly instruct the service advisor that they are not allowed to drive the car off the lot.

cover your ass! The mechanics, and especially the porters, do not give a flying fuck about your car. it's a toy to them. protect yourself.

I have my service advisor write my instructions on the work order. leave no room for excuses.

What is this? A car for ants? It needs to be at least 3 times bigger.
