How much would the install cost for this be? Isn’t this a pain to install?

No too bad. Half day worth of work if you do it yourself. Can be done without breaking cooling or oiling systems. Actually, it's a total pain but no different than anything else.

I'm sure a shop could do it in 2-3 hrs.

Interesting. I’ll call my local shop and see they’re willing to do it at a reasonable price.

The toughest part is using a mirror to line up the CBC and thread the bolts in.

My Tech did it from above.....

So what tunes are you guys using now that you have a CBC? My shop said they can bench flash my car for about 60-70whp with no other modifications and roughly 100whp if I add catless DPs.

I was under the impression once your ECU was bench flashed or whatever then you'd be able to update tunes via the OBD port. Is that not the case?

Basically once you unlock then you can do what everyone else does to update/change tunes etc. Only thing to be careful of is making sure dealer doesn't update software again.

Maybe I'm wrong though?

I asked them all about that too and they said its an entirely different computer between S55 and B58 running completely different software which makes sense.

I’m not sure about other tuners, but my local shop said that they simply hook directly to the ECU with the harness then flash and dyno tune. They don’t “unlock” anything.

Maybe other tuners do it differently...

Yeah that’s what it is basically. No body opens them anymore like they used to drilling into them etc.

In Russia, the S55 has already been unblocked after updating from the dealer. Installed BM3 and no problem !

Bench coding haven't been any problem, it's the setup PTF (BM3) uses that's the problem. As of now you can't plug the cable in directly and unlock via OBD.

It depends on a few factors...

You have 91 or 93 Octane In Seattle?

I believe with HFC's or catless Downpipes a safe 93 Octane HP # is around 530-540. Thats running up to 22 lbs of boost.

Check this out:

https://f80.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1590504

With a E85 Flex Fuel setup your going to be up in the high 500's.

I got a $1375 labor charge quote to install the crank bolt capture from VTT. This doesn’t include the part ($99). Ridiculous!

I might just get a tune/flash in the future and just hope I won’t be among the 1-2% that have the spun crank hub. After all, every modification is a risk of a void warranty.

Evening,

I've been following this thread with interest. I have a 2020 M2 so I believe the ECU will be locked. I have a tuning company not far from me that can unlock the ECU so that I can use Bootmod3.

My question is that will the Bootmod3 maps work with a 2020 car? I hadn't even thought it might be an issue. But in a previous response, pagers ago, someone mentioned that the maps were not compatible with 2020 cars. Doesn't sound right to me, but just wanted to check.

Cheers!

As far as I know, if you are able to flash BM3 then all maps should work. Maybe someone else who actually flashed their 2020 M2 with BM3 can correct me if I’m wrong.

My tuner said that they flash my car straight from the ECU which bypasses the encryption so not sure if that will allow for the car to be flashed via OBDII afterwards

Maybe other tuners do it differently.

If by that, you mean they remove the ECU, ship it off, and then put it back in when they get it back, you're correct.

There are very few shops I would trust to take apart my car. And even if "any shop" can do it, fuck 99% of shops out there.
There is no need to remove the ecu for a tune. It takes 10-15 minutes to move the intercooler and disconnect the ecu's connectors
so what, you're going to just ship your entire intake manifold off? whatever floats your boat.
If you to to a tuner can tune the car just by placing the connection after lifting the intercooler. This is what I did
