Very nice write up and photos. Btw - how did the trip computer log 46 hours of use? I am not aware of this functionality?

I'd like to say Thank You to hdg76 and all the other M2, M3/M4 owners who have posted their ED trips on here. Your experience and sharing of knowledge, made my first M car and first ED, the best trip ever! And my wife and I travel a lot.

If any of you are debating whether to do an ED or not, research this forum for suggested itineraries, locations, hotels, driving routes, etc and DO IT! It took, 3 planes each way, 12 time zones traveled, 24 total hours to and 27 long hours back from Europe for us to do it. And we'd do it all over again.

I posted my trip in the ED section, 12 Time Zones to a European Delivery. A shorter trip then hdg76's trip, but one that may be of assistance to those who have less time. Once again, a big Mahalo & Aloha to all of you that have shared your prior experiences!

rich8566 The whole time I didn't really play with the trip computer. When I bumped the iDrive over to chose split screen, the bar chart with time and distance was an option for the right portion in addition to mpg charts. The last photo with the summary was from the vehicle info section.

boneca Thanks. Looking forward to going to meets once I get the car back next month! Counting the days

Aloha Joe Enjoyed reading your writeup as well. We even had some overlap on places we went. No to mention the spec you ordered was perfect!

Experience of a lifetime. Great write up/pictures.

Even though I grew up in Switzerland and have been to Germany many times, I still want to a ED so bad. It's been on my bucket list for 20+ years, but I was never patient enough to wait for a new car and/or family got in the way. Posts like these convince me that I still need to do this .......... soon.

One question. How scary is the traffic on the Ring? I have 30+track days and never have issues at HDPE's with other cars, faster or slower. I can hold my own in advanced groups, but have seen so many videos of crazy things at the Ring, that I am slightly apprehensive taking a brand new car there. Maybe you mentioned it in your write up, sorry! I did not read all of it yet.

Great write up and pictures! Glad you enjoyed it. It's almost impossible not to.

Enjoy the car once it's back, if it isn't already.

Great photos and write-up. Really enjoyed viewing it. Fond memories as we just returned from our ED MTour 2 weeks ago. But we didn't take quite as many photos. Below is link to photos taken by official BMW.CA photographer on our trip.

norMcal Knowing the course was first priority for me. Gran Turismo helped me memorize what corners were coming up, which allowed me to focus on others on the track. Another thing I did was wait about ten minutes after the track opened so all the eager drivers could get out there and fight for space. My first lap I took it really easy and was passed a ton! By the second, a lot of people already had their fill and the track was a lot quieter. I'm hoping to put all my videos up this weekend, but here's a time-lapse of my second run (Instagram - LongBeachBlueM2) which shows the track is much quieter. Last, I lucked out with weather. It's quite an experience and I'd totally recommend it! I'm trying to figure out when I can do it again

Thanks for your answer. That was my plan, to learn the track on Grand Tourismo also. That has served me well before for Laguna Seca.

So it sounds like you can time it a bit to avoid a huge surge in cars. And yes, the weather is obviously a lottery there, but chances are probably better in the fall to get a nice day, as that is the time I would choose, if I go.

Maybe you should consider to rent a car to drive on the 'Ring. Apex has cars for as little as 40 euros per lap. Apex is run by Misha aka Boosted Boris. You can also opt to pay a little bit extra just in case you crash the rental or someone hits you. I think its a good way to go for Tourist Fahrt laps of the 'Ring.

BMW Driving Experience has the BMW M Fascination Nordschleife, which is 2 nights, 2 days of training. Highly worth it just to take a trip over when not doing a ED. The trainers are all BMW test drivers or engineers; my trainer in 2012 was Dirk Hacker who then was Vice President of chassis for BMW, now he is the BMW M Division Vice President of Engineering.

Great write up and looking forward to your PCD trip.

What drone do you have, as I'm thinking about filming my ED with a drone inside the Welt. Something different for ED #3, as once you do one ED your addicted and will keep on repeating the cycle.

Awesome pictures and awesome story I did my ED back in Aug 2015 (link in signature) Going again this August with a friend for his M2 delivery. Can you comment more on Strasbourg and Riuewihr? Worth visiting and how much time is needed? Also we were trying to decide between Heidelberg and Wurzburgh. They seem to be similar. Any advice?

Thanks.

Great write up. But, as an air traffic controller, I cringe when I see people's drone use. Did you look up any of the local laws prior to using a drone? I know 99% of the people in the states do not. It's causing more and more problems in the world of aviation.

A very nice write up and photos ! The hotels must have cost as much as the car and I can't help wondering how much better your fuel consumption would have been without all that gluttony in the restaurants LOL. Your girlfriend has a great taste in shoes by the way !

Ibiza I bought the GoPro Karma because of the removable gimbal to be used with the grip and because I already had several GoPros including the Hero 5. As a drone it is OK, but not the best one on the market. A friend has the DJI Mavik and if I were to buy a new one, it would probably be that. Don't think you'll be able to fly inside Welt or most cities, unless you get the DJI Spark and sneak it really quick. Just saw one of those this weekend and they are crazy small!

smitty16s I hear you. I always call the local towers first and check my radii for airports. The new drones also don't let you fly if you are too close / require you to acknowledge you need permission. I was even more paranoid in Europe and only flew it several times when I confirmed distance from airports and no local laws that I could find. I am sure that not everyone does that tho
