Cracked windshield
I guess I'll need to get it replaced by the dealer. Does anyone know a general cost? Any other alternatives? I would prefer to stay with an OEM part.

Probably around 5-800 bucks, you can look up the part number on real OEM and get a sense of the part cost, I think I remember seeing them for under 400. Then its all about the installer, you can probably find a good one that is willing to install for you for 75 bucks or so. In AZ glass insurance is a must because its tough to make it 15,000 miles without having a windshield getting popped. I had mine done at about 6,000 miles, the insurance company used Safelight which did not use BMW glass but it is the same manufacturer, they do very good work in my experience. |

Looks like the part number is 51317240639 but there are 5 versions based on the sensors. All seem to be easy to get for about 250 plus shipping which seems to run 150 from most dealers.

It goes by state. In California a cracked windshield is a normal comp claim and subject to deductible. My deductible was $1,000 when mine got hit. No bueno
A cheap alternative is trying to get someone, or doing it yourself, to fill the crack. I used rain x windshield repair kit. |

The installer said it is the same part as OEM, without the Connected drive sticker in the glass. I've used Safelite for years and knew a replacement wouldn't be more than $500. My dealer offered windshield insurance for ~$800, requiring a day at the dealership and (I think) a deductible of some sort for each occurrence. In my opinion (not just the raw math), I will have to go through 2 more windshields before the insurance would have been a better deal. Having safelite do mobile installation is infinitely more convenient than dealing with service at the dealer, not to mention the claim process with the windshield insurer. |

The car I sold to buy my M2 was an m235I. The windshield cracked and my insurance covered it. I told them its an almost new car and I wanted original glass and they agreed. Try that first

I like that my insurance in Florida has no deductible glass coverage. With no inspection down here, without that, I'm sure every 5th car would be driving around with a broken windshield.
I've had a few replaced over the years on my CLK and on my M3. Initially, the safelight guy showed up with the non-factory glass. I told him they were replacing factory glass and that's what I expected. They'd then order the proper glass and installed it a few days later. I think even if you tell them beforehand (as I've done) they still show up with the non factory hoping you'll say "screw it" and have them use whatever they have. I'm not that guy.

I've had good experience with safelite. Fast, cheap and easy. No issues.

I recently had to replace my M2 windshield, and the total cost for OEM part installed was $620 with Safelite. I'm in California, so I had to pay my $500 deductible.
