Any issues on 2016 - 2018 LCI models?
Hi everyone - In the market for a 2018 M2, but wanted to check in with the owners who've had their pre-comp M2s dating from 2016 all the way to the 2018 LCI models regarding any reliability, mechanical, or any issues they may have encountered (regardless of factory warranty coverage). Doesn't matter if you purchased used or new, especially since its been 5+ years for the 2016 and 3+ years for the 2018 LCI models. Would love the get some input - thanks!

The LCI taillights tend to get error codes and have to be replaced. Mine were done under warranty like many others.
LCI gauge cluster scratches very easily, using only compressed air seems to be the solution. Factory charge pipe tends to blow, even on stock tunes. Upgrade is advised. |

Hi,
the chargepipe is one of the weak points. Will crack after some time. So if you buy a M2 (N55) you will have to buy an aftermarket chargepipe. The other big part is the brake cooling. If you would like to go on track, a mod of the brakes is nesassary. Best regards Christian |

The LCI (2018) is one of the most solid BMW's ever made (and so is the 2016/17 model for that matter). But you run the SERIOUS risk of falling in love, and depleting your bank account with TINY upgrades (ask me how I know). The BMW tax is real, and that's the worst part of OG M2 ownership.
Hurt me baby, make me write bad checks... |

There is a long thread on LCI tailights throwing an error code and not working correctly. There is a factory service bulletin out on it. Most have been fixed under warranty.

The rear signal malfunction is a known factory defect, and even if your car is out of warranty, because the signal is a safety thing, BMW will take care of it. It's a matter of a phone call. My local dealer told me that there was a VIN range, and that my car wasn't in it, so I told them that I'd like to speak to the district manager. They called me back and scheduled the appointment. Simple as that.

Mechanically solid car.
Like anything, 911 included, rattles and pops and creaks may or may not appear and can come and go with the weather. These noises are associated with the A-pillar, windshield, front passenger seat, and front suspension. All separate issues that appear randomly across mileage intervals, or not at all. TSBs exist for some, but not all of those. If you experience stones or debris stuck in between the rear brake dust shields and the rear rotors you’ll think your new toy deposited the rear muffler on the street, but will have been officially welcomed into the F chassis M2/M3/M4 owners club. Easily addressed by either bending the dust shields or swapping to the updated dust shields. Long term owners are advised to monitor for Oil Filter Housing Gasket leaks and electronic water pump failure but neither are repairs that a qualified independent can’t handle for a reasonable price. Buy any F87 M2 with confidence assuming you’re looking out for the same things you would buying any other used sports car. Several high mileage owners post from time to time sharing trouble free experiences. I’ve put 11k of the 12k on mine, and plan to enjoy another 75k at least. Good luck on your hunt. check out Extreme Powerhouse or ECS Tuning, they all have a great selection of solid charge pipes. Any of them will be an upgrade over the OEM one.

Not a single issue just the airbag recall fixed in one hour. Now have the M2Comp with almost 4,000KM and I still everyday miss the more visceral/raw N55 engine and perfect mating of the DCT...especially the 0-60KMH. I think the N55 suits the car better. |

Absolutely solid cars. Had no issues whatsoever with mine. And it managed multiple sub 8 minute 'Ring laps while changing oil once every 2 years or 25,000km per BMW Germany recommendations.
It is under-cooled for serious track work if you're into that sort of thing. Air to air intercooler can not keep up with the heat of the motor, and AITs go up, leading to timing being pulled. Nothing serious, but after some hot laps the engine starts pulling power. That's the only issue I can think of.

- catted downpipe - intercooler - charge pipe - OTS tune - MP or KW V3 suspension with a mild drop - clutch stop - carbon bits (the black plastic was a terrible idea) - comp-type mirrors - spacers I mean, that's a short list IMO for damn near perfection when you're done. |

2017 here. No issues 28k miles. Do probably 6-8 track events with it per year. It’s been a very reliable and fun car.
