Used VHT matte black per your recommendation. Just used masking tape to protect the exhaust tips, and applied 3 coats. Easy enough just lie down and spray away. Holding up just fine so far. No cracks, no stretch marks, no complaints that I'm looking at other cars' mufflers.

BBQ grill paint works just fine as well, used it before on many cars previously. Tends to be matte in finish, helps it disappear even further. Also pretty inexpensive as you can pick it up in many places.

Get the tips powder coated. Great quality and they last like wheels. It's not expensive as well.
I had my Z,s tips powder coated in Satin Black.
