They won't know anything credible. Regional BMW reps don't have information yet. Lots of speculation by dealers passing on anecdotal stuff but nothing concrete as far as I can see... and as Mo said, they don't have a fix yet. If they did, the dealers would have credible information. They are heavily interested in this and are just as frustrated as future owners are (well, almost as frustrated ).

Communication is key, I agree, but I don't think BMW has anything meaningful to say yet so they are waiting until they do (although they should have some official announcement in the interim).

I just called BMW relations and your statements are correct - they are playing the diplomatic card "talk to your CA". However, I have a request to speak to a supervisor to echo the message of please keep us informed. Personally, I don't need an update for my specific car today all though it would be nice but collectively I want to convey that communication about status is important as some are growing impatient or running out of other options (primary vehicle) or made travel arrangements (one way ticket to PCD) like me.

I encourage to call BMW relations to echo my sediments if you agree - as a collective whole we are requesting an update/improved communication.

I'm in this boat too...

I did a Euro Delivery in May (see Nurburgring pic below) and my car has been at port in NJ since the end of June...

I don't see a quick solution here.

Not to mention, if the diff has to be replaced, doesn't that mean resetting the 1200 mile break in clock!?!

when was your production date? and have you been given a reason why your car is sitting at port?

my production date was 4/28 and been at VPC since 6/28. genius keep telling me it's not affected by the diff issue but no answer why it's still there.

My production date was about the same as yours. I'm told mine is held up for the diff issue.

If our cars have been held there since end of june for the diff issue then BMW must have known about it since then and things are only becoming public now then they dropped the ball big time.

I agree, I personally think BMW is fully aware of what the situation is and what the fix for it is. They even mentioned in their bulletin what the fix is. We're just aware of it now due to the bulletin that was released couple of days ago.

My car completed production on July 5th and when I checked the status of my car several times between then and when the bulletin came out I was told my vehicle was on delivery hold. Every time I asked why it's on hold no one could tell me why. Now we all know why!

So I'm fairly confident BMW has been aware of this issue from at least the beginning of July if not June or even May maybe.

Unfortunately we're the ones in the dark along with our dealers and customer service reps, etc.

I don't think all the holds are for the diff issue - according to the e-mail my CA got from BMW when he tried to schedule my PCD, the 2017 models haven't received their EPA and CARB certifications yet, and can't be released until they do (picture of e-mail enclosed below).

I did some digging, and the 2017 M3/M4 has received it's CARB certification (as of 6/23), but I haven't been able to verify the EPA certification since their web site is "experiencing issues".

The link for the CARB certification is http://www.arb.ca.gov/msprog/onroad/cert/cert.php#6. Click the "7/22/16" link under the "PC_LDT_MDV_MDEV" header, then look at file "bmw_pc_a0080431_3d0_u2.pdf".

Technically, yes in relation to the diff

The M cars are back in production. So BMW must know what the issue is and the remedy.

What isn't know by the list members is when BMW will ship replacement diffs for their cars. Depending on when BMW discovered the issue + the fix + the vendor's or M division's (?) capacity to pump out replacements with out negatively impacting produced demand == when.

Very well said. As of right now, we don't have any info and BMW doesn't have a solution. The initial batch of 202 has grown significantly. I checked today and there were no updates on what BMW plans to do. We'll hopefully have something next week. There isn't a complete solution yet. How BMW will handle this, and how they'll get the proper parts for replacement are still up in the air.

I get that dealers aren't being told any more than we are but when we shell out thousands over MSRP for nothing more than the privilege of getting to order an earlier build and an "amazing delivery experience" and this is what we get... Pretty sure I want something more than "we don't know."

Believe me, I get it. At this point, that's what your CA's will tell you because they truly don't know.

My car was produced 4th of July and is now available for delivery, I guess my car should be affected but the dealer can't find it in the "do not deliver" list.

I'm on vacation in France but will be home next week, should I pick it up once I get home or should I let the dealer fix it first? Don't want to end up last in line for repairs if I decide to take it home.

Edit: I'm a swede

Just collect the car and drive it, then have the recall done at your convince (2000km service) instead of the theirs
