Bellissimo Special at a local Italian place. Sausage, chicken, ham, red peppers, tomatoes, black olives, and artichokes in a white wine cream sauce over spaghetti. One of my favorites at this place.

Agreed - I had the best steak I've ever had in Florence as well - same as you - Bistecca al la Florentine or whatever it was.

Can't even remember the restaurant, but the steak was incredible. It came with sauces on the side, not that you needed them, but they truly changed the experience as well, so I had a little with and a little without. We had the chef at the culinary experience we did recommend us where to get steak, went to his top choice, it was amazing!

Are you still there?

If you happen to still be in Florence - Trattoria dall'oste in the Santa Croce area (don't go to the other locations) is the one recommended by the chef. And it was amazing. Call for reservations, otherwise, you are waiting.

No, this was awhile ago, but I keep that pic on my phone because I have such fond memories of that meal! Haha

Glad you also had a similar experience!

Yes, best steak I've had, salt and olive oil only

Problem is Mrs. Miller likes Well Done, Italy likes medium Rare, kitchen did not want to cook it her way...

All 5.1" of Theresa walked up to the kitchen screaming in Italian (make it my way, I'm on holiday!) they did!

the pastas were good too, easily the best meals in my life was @ Florence and in Rome

We do not drink wine with dinner, Coke lites and or water, restaurant staff laughs, fu*kem, I like what I like and I'm paying, but rudeness aside wow they know how to cook, I messed around with the waiter in broken Italian, can I have a Phily cheese steak stuffed crust pizza?!? ask the kitchen if they can do that for us Americans please 😐 seeing him relay the request was fun, and if your wondering the kitchen said they can't

I can't tell you how many times I have seen this while traveling overseas. I try to go during off season for this exact reason and so that I don't get lumped into the "obnoxious American" stereotype. LOL.... sad but so true.

I travel all over the world with my family when I'm on projects, weekend here long holiday there it helps me focus when I'm with the Miller clan

my wife has olive skin and dark hair, speaks 5 languages and has a boston accent! she blends in wherever we go from Spain to Germany

No ice in sodas all over Germany, parisians look at us like we're from Mars when we give the kids apples with peanut butter @ the park AND euro countrys assume we like cheese on everything

Wife is a military brat, grew up all over, her travel tips are never to wear American sports logos and tell all Restaurant's YES, we're Americans, we're on holiday AND we tip, we will finish within an hour not like your locals sitting for 2 hours+ please give us a table

We were in London for ten days this past July. The nationality we saw the least of were the Brits. I think I spoke to only two. Everyone else seemed to be eastern European or American or Asian. I know from past trips to the UK when we've been far from London it's very different. But the big cities in Europe these days are a huge mix of nationalities. Everyone just seems to blend in with the crowd.

Which makes for some outstanding culturally based restaurants. I have had some very diverse, but exceptional food experiences there.

It's just embarrassing and shameful. Unless traveling with someone from here, I typically avoid people from the states...I know. It's an asshat thing but jeeze. Here is one of the best of the worst examples:

Allegedly from my home state.

Imo, We are all very tribal now, regional meals are held sacred to locals anything different is just odd to us.

Asian breakfast likes fish in a broth with noodles, South America likes coffee with a toasted bread and USA likes the grand slam! 3k calories by 8am, to each their own

I like traveling, I like trying local cuisine but some local meals are just gross, I mean starving college student wouldn't want it gross

Example: mid west USA, frito pie, wtf

Boston has roast beef sandwich shops all over, rare sliced roast beef, onion roll with horseradish sauce and lite bbq gravy, to me it's normal and means (home) someone from 200 miles away NYC might have the same opinion I have of KC's beloved frito pie

Agreed. The best meal we had in London was at an Indian place near Tower Bridge.

I miss the roast beef sammich places in Boston. There were some great ones back in the 90's when I was working my way through school. Pastrami is another thing we just can't get out here in the cornfields.
