M2 car insurance

BIMMERPOST
     Featured on BIMMERPOST.com
Am I the first one having difficulties to insure my M2 ?

I'll take ownership tomorrow afternoon and I still do not have my insurance papers...

First this morning they (La Capitale Insurance) sent me a PDF document with my VIN (the correct one for a M2) but in the "insured car" section they wrote "M240i 2017 convertible".

I called them to tell them that it is not a M240i 2017 convertible, it is a M2 coupe 2017.

They sent my a second PDF with the "insured car" M240i 2017 coupe...

I called them again, 3 hours ago, telling them that it is not a M240i coupe, it is a M2 coupe 2017...

It looks like they do not have a clue about what is a M2 ! Although they have a scan of my purchasing contract with all details including the "model"...

I'm still waiting for their response...

That sucks. I had no issue. Maybe give them the chassis code (F87). That might help.

The VIN should pull it up automatically in their system. Sounds like an issue on their end but you should be good as long as you gave the correct VIN.

I'm sure that I have the correct VIN. I used it for all the tracking I've done from production to delivery to the dealer and it is also the one written on my purchasing contract.

The problem is surely in the insurance company system, when they entered my car's VIN they had to force it in, because their system told them that it is an invalid VIN...

The problem is simple, they probably never insured a M2 so far and they don't have the model in their system, at least not yet.

That's odd...but I think you're right, that it's your insurer's systems. My provider (Chieftain) had no issues with the VIN I provided...

This happens quite frequently with new cars. Just takes time. In the meantime, as long as they're insuring your VIN you'll be fine.

I certainly hope so. But so far no confirmation from the insurance company about that...

It's funny you say this...was speaking with my broker today because I too need coverage for my delivery tomorrow and they kept telling me my vin was incorrect. Said they had to contact underwriter because their database may not be up to date.
I insure with intact btw.

Had the same issue with Progressive. Took 5 calls and 2 weeks to get it done.

They kept saying the VIN was wrong and I sent them the Build Sheet and got a Manager to take care of it.

This. Happened with my 228i at first. Was corrected after a while automatically. All that matters is the VIN

Seems like my M2 insurance will be high. It is higher than my GT4 and Macan GTS. I don't understand why BMW M pricing is horrible to insure?

I have State Farm and my M2 is cheaper to insure than my wifes 2013 Infiniti QX 56. It is also only slightly more than my 2010 Infiniti EX 35 was. I did have similar issues at the outset with them trying to load the M2 in the system. It wasn't too bad and everything lined up prior to pick up of car.

Nope, I've found quite the opposite. It's low, very low, lower than my old 2007 Ford Fusion winter beater by 50%. PM me if you'd like to know the actual price.

Move to New Hampshire, you don't need auto insurance there.

Both State Farm who I had on my M235i and still do on my M2 and Farmers, both had issues finding the M2 in their system so I'd say its not unusual with a car model this new.
