F87 Tribute

Hi to all ,

I created a video as a tribute to the legendary F87 generation. This video includes some of the best reviews and moments. Huge praise from everyone in the automotive industry. I thought it would be nice to have a video like that, where people could find a video they like so they can go and view the whole review.

The tribute video includes footage of the F87 M2 , M2 Comp , M2 CS , M2 CS Racing. I tried to collect the best moments , im not sure if i missed anything. Althought its a bit long , i couldnt remove anything from in! Normally the content included in that 1h 5min video , its cutted and trimmed from various videos that were longer than 10hours. So i tried to find the best moments from each one of them.

Enjoy

Oh wow. You really nailed it! And that guy at 1:01:07 is every owner/driver/journalist who’s ever driven the F87 M2 CS. I remember in his full video noting he kept putting his hands behind his head just kicking back and appreciating the car in realtime (problematic given he was driving stick hard in the twisties at the time).

What a service for the ages you’ve done for every owner and fan out there. Thank you 🙏🏽

I’m sure I’ll be back at some point into a blue manual.

Thanks ! Its not really a tribute but it took me more than 10 hours of work non stop to find all these videos and cut them at the right time etc , thankfully i remembered the videos since ive watched them several times. But its good to have one single video with a compilation of the best moments of reviewers, it reminds to everyone that every single reviewer falled in love with it. The length of all those reviews combined is more than 9 hours combined. So i tried to make it as short as possible without missing a single review, i even added some good moments of racing. I was there at the race of legends in the Nurburgring watching all those M2 CS racing cars driven by the absolute BMW Legends.

I just thought , it was good to have such a compilation !

I know , i cant really make it any better. At least i hope that this video will help another guy to find all the praise it received easier since its just an hour long , speaking about all variants, design team , the legendary Albert Biermann and the philosophy behind the F series and the S55 , you can learn few things from it. I hope the “Squid” could see it and learn few things in order to help him make a tribute like he did with the E30 M3 and many more.

Im talking about this guy - https://youtu.be/TYV49LXf6oE?si=pfdw5HMcqmGtgXNM

This is next level , but i dont have such skills. Ive done this within a day , 10 hours in a row non stop. Normally it takes weeks/months to make it in the level of the video ive sent above.

Great Job! It is nice to have all of the accolades in one video. The F87 is worthy the praise it has received over the years.

Watching Jason Lieberman gush about the CS got me thinking; how much different is the CS from the base?

Very tight front-end turn in, uncapped high-end RPM performance, and design upgrades add significantly to the car. It is operating at another level.

That said you can pay less and get 80% of the same car with a comp. Everyone person has a different threshold. In retrospect, the CS pricing for the M2 was a steal, and came before the EVO accolades and the M5 CS the year later.

I owned both , they re different. There are major differences such as engine, chassis, suspension etc. You have to try one to understand.

If i didn't own one , it would be very difficult to believe how different it is. Each variant has its character but they all share that F87 thing !

Often in the car (and motorcycle) world the law of diminishing returns applies. Each model is incrementally better than it's predecessor. In the case of the M2cs, it will not be worth it for most people. All F87's are awesome, pick the one you can comfortably afford and enjoy.

Best advice I’ve read here in a long time. Context and relativity is king.

Huge difference if you are an enthusiast and can pick the changes. I owned both too. In hindsight it was a bargain. The big M2 GT cruiser we get now is the same price as the M2CS was here. That’s crazy.

The future will tell whether this new kid on the ///M block lives up to its high expectations. Based on what I know so far, I trust that the M2 CS is bound to become a very desirable BMW M car, a quintessential automotive gem setting a new beemer bliss benchmark: a properly sized, fast & powerful rear-wheel drive 4-seater with great driving dynamics, fine-tuned reliable 3.0 6-cyl powerhouse, cool design & presence, decent boot space, creature comforts and available with manual gear stick & M-DCT. You can comfortably drive your partner + two kids to the circuit, lap the circuit and all return home again with a smile, including a stop to pick up groceries. Quite practical and versatile/multipurpose.

Moreover, the M2 CS will also be one of the last models before BMW and BMW M fully implement the new 'design language' of big front end grilles. Very likely the last generation at the gates of the future era of 'grillefication', electrification, more front-wheel drive & all-wheel drive, more automatic/ZF transmission, less 6-cylinder & exhaust drama and further tightened regulations. And, hence, IMHO the M2 CS stands a good chance to be reputed as 'vintage'/'classic' in the future (so-called 'future classic'), a pinnacle car tech toy with still an 'analog' twist (instead of going fully digital) facilitating emotional connection.

But it risks to be a challenge to get hold of an allocation (build slot) (2200 cars worldwide, all built in 2020), features a peculiar Bavarian blue launch color and an immodest price-tag for a BMW 2er.

Unlike the E46 M3 CSL (SMGII), E92 M3 GTS, E90 M3 CRT, E92 DTM Champion Edition (Spengler), F82 M4 GTS, F82 DTM Champion Edition (Wittmann), F82 M4 CS, F80 M3 CS and F82 Heritage Edition, manual transmission will be available as standard feature on the M2 CS. BMW M boss Flash confirmed last Summer - in a general way about BMW M cars - that currently no plans exist to discontinue the manual gearbox (see for example here). However, almost certainly we won't see the M-DCT on the next generation M2 (G87). The M-DCT is on its way out.

As they sometimes say, it's all about the chassis and driving dynamics: performance-wise, the F87 M2 CS is the best automotive choice of the F87 pack.

A couple of differences as regards equipment/features:

Thank you. I hope i could add more especially for the OG M2 and M2 Competition , but its already an hour long , it could be twice that if i added them all.

Its good to have a single video even an hour long that covers almost all the reviews and history of the F87. From Design to engineering , to reviews , moments , racing , etc.

I think its very important for people to understand what means F87. And this is already proven by other models , the E30 has huge fanbase and respect , same for the E46 and other models.
