Also a smaller buyer pool, which we certainly have currently, is going to increase volatility. You just don’t know when the right buyer is going to be looking to bid at any one given time.

God forgive me, but I actually had a thought this weekend of selling the CS, then I came to my senses.

Yeah, 30K+ miles with an accident

I’m thinking $55-60K on a good day

Also doesn’t help that seller can’t take good pictures to present the car. Some of the worst for sale pictures I’ve seen online.

An $18.5k difference costing $5.14 per mile.

I'm not sure why so many people below this post are saying the prices are all over the place, I don't see it. There's a steep price curve when you get a car that's at break-in miles or below and that's not just a CS thing. That accounts for the $100k sale. From there if we look at the last three 6MT steel brake cars on BaT, two with 7k miles both went for $77k and this one with 5k miles went for $81.5k, right in line with what you'd expect based on prior sales with similar mileage and considering this car had PPF and was presented very well by the seller. I'm not saying there's no volatility but if you look at the data it tells you where the market is right now.

Add BaT fees to those numbers. 84k and 81k. Autotrader nationwide search shows 10 cars with nothing less than 80k. I always think BaT is unpredictable. All it takes is 2 bidders to battle it out, or on a bad day nobody is interested and ends with RNM.

Right but it's all relative with the fee:

MT Steel Brake Cars Aug. '23 to Mar. '24 On Auction Sites:
(BaT = Red, Cars and Bids = Green)
1,400 mi, $100k ($105k), 2024
5,000 mi, $81.5k ($85k), 2024
7,000 mi, $84k ($88k), 2023
7,000 mi, $77k ($81k), 2024
7,000 mi, $77k ($81k), 2024
9,000 mi, $80k ($84k), 2023

So you can kind of see where the market is for these cars in 2024 on the auction sites.

As for Autotrader, I've been checking those listings every day for 2+ years (at least manual cars anyway). You'll note that the two private sale cars with mileage in the range of the the recent BaT cars and sellers asking $92-95k have been sitting for months and months, they're priced about $10k too high. On the dealer side, the Park Place car has been there for at least 6 months asking $99k for a 7k mile car, the BMW Bloomington car has been there for at least 4 months asking $95k for a 10k mile car, and then there's EAG's car which has been there for ~18 months at $115k for a 2k mile car (understanding there's a crazy "EAG tax" on that).

Don't get me wrong, these cars are holding value incredibly well relative to most cars but there's still some wishful thinking back to the 2022 car market days that hasn't worked its way out yet.

2023 Model 3  [6.50]
2022 T4R TRD Pro  [5.00]
2011 1M  [6.67]
2014 991.1 GT3  [10.00]
I was still able to sell mine over asking this past November 2023. Although I did try to list it in BaT, I was asked to drop the reserve price to $75k. That didn't sit well with me especially my CS only had 3400 miles.

I also thought my car will sit for months listed on Cargurus but it sold in a week. There are buyers out there that are willing to pay fair price on a great almost new condition CS and don't shy away or ignore from answering what we think is a stupid question from potential buyers and be prepared to show the car and work with their schedule. I know a lot of us don't want to take that extra effort and very time consuming, we choose the auction or consignment route because it's easy. They just want to be paid and let the next car roll in.

Just something to think about if you're trying to unload your CS.

$73,500 or $77,125 with fees.

I am sure the CCB helped with the final price, but I still think it’s a strong finish for a 31k mile car with damage reported.

To me, the nicest part of that car is you are never worried about putting miles on it and maybe even where you drive or park it.

That’s a solid finish for the car. Good indicator of where values stand for higher mileage examples.

Agree 1000%

Great price for this car and tbh I’m surprised at how good it is considering the last few sales.

Yeah agreed. The only thing I'd be worried about is at 31k miles is at what point the CCBs become an expensive liability.

What is the liability? There is no requirement to replace them with another set of CCB.

Also, CCBs that aren’t heavily tracked can last 3x as long…

Unless you guys know the owner, I don't know how that car was used for 31k miles and I wouldn't deviate from factory spec. on a limited M car like this.

I’m no expert, but I assume a qualified tech can get a rough idea on wear / use from a good visual inspection….no? I know it won’t be 100%, but I imagine there’s a way to get a rough idea?

Will be interesting to see how a different CS is holding up in the market.
