Also someone will probably take this the wrong way, and not directing this at the OP (I enjoyed the vid,) but what's with the aggressive M2 vs M4 dialogue? Sounds like an M vs AMG vs RS thread.

Both cars are great. Buy the one you like, no need to bash the other.

m performance for s65 was not worth it. every other aftermarket muffler sounded better and was priced more accordingly. BUT i will admit that's not the s65's fault it is BMW's fault. they have also been better at making exhausts for their turbo cars than for their na cars. that was my point.

This is so sad..
There were so many good sounding M cars in the past.
These turbo-M cars sound like total poo-poo to me.
...and people are arguing which newest M car sound less worse... so sad.
These cars are not even that fast anymore, there are so many other choices at much lower prices (with NA engines and better exhaust notes)

Can't say that either one is particularly inspiring in that video.

I want to hear it in person.

I had an MPE on my S65 and I loved it. Louder - but not obnoxious - and bit more exotic given the TI.

I don't disagree, but short of building a monster track toy, in regards to stock brakes/cooling/drivetrain/weight savings/chassis rigidity, the f8x is the most track-capable BMW.

The M4 sounds better than the M2 for my opinion, you can hear clearly that BMW try to make the M4 burble in the M2. but still the M4 sound is unique

I've owned my F80 for 10 months now, just last week I fitted a full Schnitzer exhaust and it's transformed it. I'll be the first to admit that no video seems to capture the sound of the M3/4 just right.

The early launch cars sounded downright odd, rattly and lawnmower like. I think over time BMW have been tweaking the sound of the S55, and the new competition pack seems totally different yet again.

The M2 sounds smooth and creamy, I had an M135i before my M3 and the M2 sounds like an angrier version. Once the car is going at speed, there isn't much volume for the outside, you tend to just hear turbo and tyre noise.

There's no right and wrong, we all like M cars, no reason why people can't appreciate one another's. I was parked up at the weekend in my M3 having an ice cream with my wife and an E60 M5 came past, he actually did a U turn to come and say "nice car mate" I said right back at ya, and told him to give it a little bit down the road, damn that V10 is a masterpiece!

Anyways.. Video of my exhaust for comparison.

Although I like the sound of the M2 more (not to mention the sound of the new C63; THAT is what a performance car should sound), this is the best exhaust note of a F80/F82 I heared so far.

I also have the impression BMW changed something so the newer F80/F82 sound not so horrendous anymore.

M156

http://www.autoblog.com/mercedes-benz

In 2011, a class action lawsuit was filed in United States District Court in New Jersey against Daimler AG, Mercedes-Benz, Mercedes-AMG for alleged defects in the M156 engine contained in AMG vehicles built in 2007-2011 model years leading to premature wear. The plaintiff claimed the combination of cast nodular iron camshafts and 9310 grade steel valve lifters contributed to the premature wear, but the defendants had known about the defect since 2007.[1]
