Left Front Wheel Clicking

Recently I've noticed a clicking occurring from the left front wheel on my OG car. I have attached a video showing it happening at all speeds/ increasing with speed and regardless of wheel angle.

Experience leads me to believe it's a wheel bearing failure but I've heard of some people talking about some friction shim TSB that BMW put out.

I am looking to get all the information before taking it to the dealer as the warranty expired in June (lol)

Excuse the noise from the track pads.

Thanks!

Have you checked to make sure there isn’t a stone caught in the brake shield? Lots of discussion on this problem.

Could be the strut mount.

I've pushed/ bent the shield a bit without a change. Also, the noise really only occurs with load leading me to believe it's bearing related

The noise increases in speed/ frequency as the car does, I do not suspect strut mount because of that.

To update:

The left front wheel bearing is bad. Dealer is replacing for a fair price even though my car is outside of warranty.

Develop a good relationship with your service advisors, friends!

That part should not have failed so early

$400 and the tech was kind enough to toss my new brake pads on that I had in the trunk. I was ok with it at the end of the day.

Yup and it's only less than a month past the warranty and under the mileage. OP seems happy with the solution though so all good

Just to update everyone, it appears there was play in the wheel bearing as well as a tire issue. The tire appears to be "out of round" indicating there's a broken belt or some other form of internal issue. This is responsible for most of the noise in this video.

A slightly bent wheel could be causing the bearing to wear out prematurely too.

True, but I do not suspect this as the issue. Wheels were refinished recently and checked for bends. They also do not show any visible bending

Did you have the wheel bearing replaced before the addressing the tire? Did the noise persist after doing just the wheel bearing?

Confirmed there was play in the wheel bearing with the tech but assumed noise was from the bearing. The car is tracked so it would make sense to see a faulty left front wheel bearing fail.

Tire noise continued after replacement

IDK where you’re located in Maryland, but Tommy’s shop is great for ongoing work and maintenance on tracked BMW’s: https://m.facebook.com/tiercarcare

He’s also a skid pad and HPDE instructor for BMW NCC & PCA Potomac, so you may have already bumped into him.

If not, tell him Zack sent you.

My first time on Summit's skid pad was with Tommy in the car! He's hilarious, lucky to have him here so close.

I'll be sure to do that!
