I have an allocation (supposedly). I have no news for the dealer on timeline yet. I have been anxiously waiting. I wish there was more details but there aren't yet.

Think the spotlight will be on the S58 M3/M4...that's where all the excitements are heading towards until the G87 M2 comes about

The S58 in a higher tune M3/M4 with xDrive pushes 500hp+ in standard trim...tuners n dragsters wet dream

Let's hope the G87 doesn't get oversized front grill treatment like the G80. The M2 is currently the best looking M car.

Sadly the G87 doesn't yet speak to me, but it's early. Scott26 mentioned the 2002 as the historic reference for design elements with the grill. I bet the improved tech will be really nice. Wider track and higher up to null the added weight.

The M2CS is still the one I'm after. Not much out there that has my interest. m2CS, C8 Z06, 992 turbo, Tesla model3p.

Figured in the absence of any 'real' news, might as well update the informal country allocation metrics.

Bulgaria got 4 in total, all spoken for. Some had a discount, due to customer loyalty (e.g. 3 M2s purchased in as many years - OG/C/CS) rather than a sign of a soft market demand (as "all gone" swiftly indicates).

Australia's final number is 70. My dealer got 2 allocations so he's had to let a few customers down. Lucky I have a good relationship and I'm a pest too. 🤓

I wonder when we'll start to hear about allocations to other parts of the world.

I'm with you Dave as I'm extremely picky with cars. Right now I'm just interested in M2 CS and new Porsche 911 Turbo. 911 Turbo is too expensive so M2 CS it is.

I think the M8 is too big and will depreciate rapidly. I'm not interested in new M3/M4 due to the grille, no DCT, and weight gain. The F82 M4 CS was ridiculed due to being overpriced so potential for G Series M4 CS also being overpriced.

No interest in Audi, Mercedes, Corvette, or Tesla.

It's a great time to be a car enthusiast, but difficult at the same time. The G series is going to be great, but feel bigger. Likely the same way folks feel the current M2 generation is with respect to the older m3 generation or 1m. For me the current gen m2 tech updates over older models make it a better DD, which is what I'm after. The G series will take this another step further. For some it will be well worth the trade-off, and others it will fall outside the sweet spot. For my needs cars in the M2CS piwer range are likely way more than enough, but is nice to have when you want to experience the kick in the pants feeling. The 911 turbo always seems to be where my heart and mind land, but the 992 is just not in a financial realm that I would consider. I think they've made enough improvement over the 991 turbo that I would need to wait for a used 992 turbo, but even used they are pricey.

Build slot locked in. 3rd week in October. So I won't get it until January I'd say. At least that means 2021 compliance. Glass half full.

Some info I found out.

Australia is not getting the weird black plastic pensioner style wheel arch decorations. I suspect it's another Euro mandated thing. So I'd guess US will be the same and won't get it either.

Australia gets 70 which are all spoken for.

All the European cars are being built first as the run has to be completed by July 1 due to some new Euro emissions rule that kicks into place after that. They managed to squeeze in 19 cars for Australia in April but then all production is dedicated to Europe until June 30.

Alcantara steering wheel standard in Australia. Only options DCT, gold wheels, carbon ceramics. Single zone A/C only.

Now the wait begins. I'm ok with it as I love my M2C anyway.

I've gone with HS, black wheels and Cup 2 tyres.

Congrats. Good info there. The wait should be easy with the m2c to play with in the meantime.
I wish BMW offered this in Imola Red with black wheels...

Nice. I may be in Munich September 19th. My SA said that if they can do Euro delivery and the stars align for that weekend that they would make it happen. I thought that was a nice gesture as they previously said no to Euro delivery. Any indication of what 2021 compliance would bring? Are the late year build slots still considered a 2020 model?

Nothing really. It just means when the car arrives in Australia the government will affix a compliance plate that says 2021 instead of 2020. It matters to some people when buying a used car. I don't think I'll ever sell it though.

Good luck with yours. The Euro delivery thing would be amazing.

Are you classing European as UK cars too? if so then UK/European cars are being built all the way until at least the end of August not June. Mine is a UK car and in build August.

Unless I have misunderstood your post.

Not sure really. I'd guess RHD and no longer being in the EU may change things? I was told there's some EU thing coming in that prioritised those cars affected and they had to be built to meet a deadline and other cars pushed back.

Maybe covid-19 will limit production numbers further. Or the 2021 M2c is going to be limited as I assume that production run is already decreased by 2200.

SOP - EOP:
  • EURO-spec M2 CS (1J31 [RHD] + 1J32 [LHD]): March till September 2020;
  • US-spec M2 CS (1J33): till December 2020.

Artemis, any idea of monthly production capacity? Do you think they run the C and CS at same time?

Dave

I posted this in the 2021 M2 Compettion thread:

Although intuitive, I could be wrong in my assumption that the M2C and M2CS are being produced in the same plant with access to all the same parts bins?

Given the 21' iteration of the M2C and CS are reportedly the last of the F87 chassis, I have a hard time believing BMW is going to limit access to the parts bins?

Your question is similar, in asking “Any idea of monthly production capacity? Do you think they run the C and CS at same time?”

I am very curious to learn how BMW is going to juggle the production and standard packages vs options available to the 21’ M2C?

I realize there is a group of prospective M2CS owners who want some sense of ‘uniqueness’ in terms of upgrades/option available. However, I am not sure BMW would pass on the opportunity to benefit from up-charges on individual components that prospective C buyers might want to include at a premium?

In other words, the goal would not be to build a CS out of a C, rather, to offer individual options from which a buyer could pick and choose according to interest . . . and at a premium. BMW could sooth the CS buyers by assuring building a complete CS from a C would exceed the cost of a CS itself.

Anyway, just some thoughts and questions during some idles times.

No. Still no official M2 CS figure for the US (the cake: 2.200 cars | the pieces/slices: unclear).

Yes. The BMW Leipzig factory production process allows a mixed production of cars on the production lines (but no Individual).
