I just discovered that BIMMERCODE supports a limited number of modules. Explains why I could not find some of the parameters I wanted to change. Bummer...

Appears Carly has support for most modules. I will be trying this.

Oh well. It was a want, not a need.

What cable do you need and where do you get it to pay someone to log in remotely and code your car. i really want the euro MDM mode.

You need an F-series eSys cable (OBD to Ethernet). You can get these on Amazon.ca (PM me for link if you need it).

For coding, codemycar.com seems to be the most popular.

Euro MDM is coming to bimmercode, just needs some time - it is a one-man show after all.

PS: it's not all that's cracked up to be - I was very disappointed TBH

I'm assuming if i just search what you wrote above on amazon I will find it - thanks.

and darn! I was hearing it was quite good and made the dsc a lot less intrusive as in "piss off I'm deliberately trying to kick the back end out so leave me alone."

Don't get me wrong, there's a definite benefit and the tail does hang out but not that much more than sport+. However, IMHO, it's not worth the hassle/risk of doing eSys vs the simplicity of BimmerCode.

wait so euro mdm isnt more lee way to the sport+ setting. it's just more lee way in comfort mdm mode. That seems silly as I wouldn't be driving in mdm mode, maybe winter thats all. in summer its 90% of the time in sport+ and sport when i'm warming up.

BimmerCode you do it yourself through an app? I'm not sure I'm comfortable doing that myself hence why I was looking at codemycar and the cable. I'm assuming buried in this thread someone explains how bimmercode works etc.?

Yep it's a glorified slow-mo popcorn mode that lets the tail loose (it's great for winter traction when you need it - that was my reason for coding it).

As for using BimmerCode, I was hesitant too but I can say with confidence, if you stick to simple mode, there's no going wrong. Feel free to PM me for more info, specific questions, etc.

From opening the iCar box to having my car fully configured, took maybe 45min.

interesting - so just download the app and connect to your car via bluetooth? and then start clicking items you want. over simplified i'm sure but what i just said is general sense??

Not Bluetooth, has to be the Wifi one (iCar V2 Wifi - I paid $36 on Amazon.ca).

As for the app, download and try demo mode - it's exactly the same, you just have to pay to unlock the actual code to car feature, so you can plan ahead all your steps.

True, other than the menu screen, not a huge difference...surprising though, figure all iDrive 5.0 would be the same.

Is Bimmercode turning out to be a better tool than say Carly?

Do I need the gate iCar 2 WiFi adapter or can I use my BMW M Performance WiFi adapter?

When do I need to worry about having a regulated power supply? Some of the coding forum say I need a 50+ amp? Yet, I see others doing remote coding.

IMO yes, I prefer it to Carly, way less chance to mess something up unless you on purpose go to expert mode.

Not sure in this one - BimmerCode would have to comment.

I kept car running first time due to longer coding, etc. - other quick small changes I did with just ignition on.

Code is for coding the car.

Link is for active management of certain features (ie. exhaust flaps, performance data, etc.)

Just thought I'd drop my experiences today from using Bimmercode with the M2

So I finally received my Vgate iCar wifi and plugged it in. iPhone hooked up immediately with no problems.
I paid for the coding unlock in the app and scrolled through the options available for the car. So here's what I wanted to set out to do based on what I'd read on here plus little things that bug me.

Activate mirror tilt when reversing
Deactivate horn sound when locking the car from outside when engine running
Switch off audio & nav on door open (soo annoying it stays on!!)
Rear daytime running lights
DVD Video in motion
Door lights on when reversing.
iPhone ringtone when receiving calls via Bluetooth

So I had the car running and began coding each option one by one. I noticed that when coding some options had finished it stopped the engine and reset all default user settings like sound settings for example - this was a little unnerving at first, especially when activating one option (I forget which one) the start button wouldn't work - the ignition was on, but I couldn't start the engine or turn off the ignition. A long press of the start button solved this after a short panic.

All of the above options are now set to how I want them, apart from the mirror tilt in reverse as I suspected. Really disappointed that this doesn't work. It seems I have to have the electric seat/folding mirrors option to get this to work. Such a shame as I've had this feature on previous early BMW's as standard and now it's gone. What's more annoying is that the electric motors are there to do it, as you can do it manually (which I always do when parking up to a kerb).

All in all I'm really impressed. It's easy to do and relatively cheap, it took me about 1/2hr, taking it steady as I didn't want to mess it up.
Altogether including the wifi dongle it's cost me no more than £50.00. I'm also now able to code my GF's F21 118d LCI and my Dad's F30 330d with the options to tailor their car so that's a bargain in my book.

Bimmercode App = Highly recommended for a light/unconfident user like me.

Are there any other apps I can use this dongle with? I'd like to be able to clear any error codes that may appear in the future and also install future software updates (if possible)

Cibbersicks yes, you can use apps that show boost and other live metrics from the engine. I use Torque on a cheap android tablet for a full digital dash of performance stats such as Intake temp, oil temp(!), boost, etc.
