Winter Wheel Setups on OG M2 18"/19" options

Picking up a '16 LBB this week and just looking forward towards winter so I can shop for the right deal instead of having to get something in a pinch.

I've always run 18's on my M cars but just was going to confirm they'll clear these brakes if I did say a cheap set of V703s.

What are optimum offsets and widths to be able to run a 245 square combo?

Or are the stock 19's well sized to run some 245 squares on them? I'm a touch concerned it's not a lot of sidewall for Midwest winters. However if people run them often and do fine, I'd just get rubber and get some BBS or something in the spring for the summer set.

Thanks.

I ordered my winter wheels and tires from tire rack as a set. The wheels show ‘no longer available’, but they’re an 18x8.5 et30. Tires are 245/40r18.

I also run 18" track wheels from ApexRaceParts. They have a good fitment guide on their website. Some of their 18" wheels do not clear the front calipers, so you’re wise to key in on caliper clearance. I believe they do some winter packages seasonally.

I’m not familiar with the VMR wheel you’re looking at, but I’d think VMR or a dealer could confirm.

245 on the 10" rear wheel would be pretty stretched. A 9" (front) wheel is on the wider end of the range for a 245 from what I recall. I think I’ve seen folks go with 255 square with this approach though.

Vmr size options are either 8.5 or 9.5 and ya I'd want 245 for snow

FYI, 18" VMR wheels will not clear the M2 brakes. You'll need to go with 19" if you want to go with VMR's.

Ok thanks. Just looking for something cheap for winter is all. Not stuck on VMR just prefer the csl style look is all.

Apex are nice but I've run into a lot of quality issues with them bending easily on Chicago winter roads.

I ran my OEM wheels last winter with some blizzak LM-60 tires. Metro Detroit roads are pretty bad but I just took it easy. Didn't have any issues.

Hmmm ok thanks. Maybe I'll consider.

You don't think less sidewall was an issue?

I mean, taller sidewalls are safer, same with narrower tires. But I did just fine with a 265/35r19 square setup.

I may give them a shot on 235/40/19 PA4s or Blizzaks

You may have a hard time getting a 235 in the rear. OEM winter setup is 245 on 8" wheels I think

Hm ok... good point. I wanted to add some ride height to it with the taller sidewall but that's a good point - they're staggered wheels.

245s it is

If you're going with oem wheels, I wouldn't put smaller than a 255 in the rear. Not sure a 245 will stretch to a 10" wheel.

I'm running these - https://www.canadawheels.ca/720form-...-u-beam-spokes

The 18x9 ET30 is perfect fit and works well with 245/40 tire. They are super light at 19lbs and should be under $200 if you can find US dealer (the link I sent was in CAD)

Here is what they look like on the car - https://f87.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh...1&postcount=51

Yeah you're right... ugh not sure why I thought it was only 9.5" in the rear.

Correct - m3/m4 oem 18" winter wheel option.

Not to be confused with 513m - oem summer wheel option - wider @
9"/10".

E92 m3 oem 18" wheel (270m - see attached photos) is another option (8" et 20mm) - you could run either all round 235 or 245 F&R or staggered 235/245

Thanks for the help I'll figure something out

I would be cautious about running 18" in winter. Especially if your location uses road cinders and gravel for extra traction. The gravel may get stuck in between the brake caliper and wheel barrel, causing scratches in the wheels.

Yeah I'm leaning towards using the stock 19's actually.

I'm in Chicago we only use salt and salt spray but ice is another issue I can see. No need to go down that road.
