Hey Karl, how's the car?

Heat is one thing, but a UK winter with salt and grit and jet washers etc, I'd be suprised if any paint would last a season over here.

It's stainless steel which is very hard to get key on for a single coat self priming spray like VHT.

Hi Mike,

Car is good thanks. Had the roof rewrapped with a carbon effect wrap today. I like it a lot. Track day on Monday at Bedford Autodrome also.

I was out with GreatWhiteM2 today and Jason noticed that parts of the diffuser had been rubbing against the exhaust and these are the areas of the exhaust where the paint has come off. The edges on the carbon diffuser have clearly melted and also worn off some black paint on the exhaust at the same time. I'll just respect those bits and they should be fine.

Have you got any upgrades / trackdays planned any time soon?

Funny you say that, it looked like rub marks in the photo the way it was kind of clean edges on the missing paint areas.

How does the roof look? Is it a gloss finish? I'm thinking about that myself. How much $$?

I had the Litchfield bolt capture fitted last week, thinking of decat DPs next, but it may be too loud with Milltek so I'm thinking I might refit the OE silencer but keep the OPF delete mid section. That's why I'm looking to clean up & spray the OE silencer properly while it's off the car.

...that's what got me on this thread..

No pealing, flaking, or cracking on my car. 2k+ miles later.

I really believe prep and the proper thermo cycling is important for adhesion.

I did. I was installing the CF diffuser at the same time - it was the perfect time.

Thanks. Those are VRSF black chrome slanted tips. They are the same size that an M4 has.
I changed them myself. You just need a 2*4 or similar block if wood, a hammer and some WD40. I had all 4 tips installed in about 30 minutes. However getting them perfectly aligned is another story.🤪

I was planning on doing this once I picked up my car, but after 6 weeks with the car I haven't thought about the muffler once...I think I'll just leave it alone.

thinking about doing it.. but not really sure if it's worth the bother I don't find myself fretting over it much.

also, I think it sounds great in loud mode. esp with windows down. I wouldn't change the exhaust itself. (US here so no particle BS)

What did you guys use to prep? I see some recommendations for sanding but I don't think Ill go that far with it. More interested in what was used for degreasing/cleaning... Im thinking sanding any major dirt/debris, wiping it down with Isopropyl Alcohol and then spraying. Any additional prep suggestions appreciated

I had some acetone laying around that did a great job cleaning and degreasing.

Muffler had 50 miles on it so no sanding required.

I used some 1,500 grit sandpaper lightly sanding the muffler can. Took 5mins.

You can't go wrong with Isopropyl Alcohol after?

Yup I used a kitchen brillo pad to scrub it bright clean, it gets in the contours well, rinse off, dry then spray down with isopropyl alcohol.

There were quite a few tar spots etc on mine to get off.

750 miles now, perfect 👍

I’m interested in hearing from folks that have hand painted their mufflers and how it’s holding up. I prefer this method to spray painting.

Is there a particular VHT or other that provides a deeper black? Not gloss but a little deeper than matte black.
