► Tyspeed Pikes Peak BMW M2 Race Car on 18" APEX FL-5 Wheels.

Tyspeed + APEX

As a proud sponsor of the Tyspeed racing team, we caught up with driver Tyler Pappas and his crew at New Jersey Motorsports Park as they prepare their BMW M2 race car for the 2019 Pikes Peak International Hill Climb. Preparing the car for this event has been challenging, but the mountain will present an even greater one. The intimidating mountain stands over 14,000 feet in elevation and the race hosts ~12 miles of intense turns without the safety of guard rails. Follow along as Tyler and his team make their way to Pikes Peak.

Check out the electric E36. Wonder how this would do on pikes peak. Only issue is endurance though as the battery capacity is reduced to save weight. It's supposed to be better at putting out power than a Tesla battery. And the motors are in back with the battery pack occupying the space under the hood. Strictly for going fast and stopping fast and having 50/50 weight distribution.

Love that they used some of the most common and biggest supporting brands in today's BMW AM industry for this incredible build.

Good luck TY!

Off the hook. What a car. Im from Colorado. When the pikes route was dirt you had to have a sack to pull out the stops to the top.

Check out dudes YouTube channel Rich Rebuilds. He literally rebuilds wrecked Tesla's and gets them for super cheap. He's opening the worlds first Tesla independent repair shop.

Rimac with his electric E30 drag car did it first, but definitely cool to see more and more people doing Tesla swaps (think LS swaps) these days though.

Nice car; great race!

I saw the Audi Quattro dominate the Pikes Peak Hill Climb in the 80s. I was only a kid but that race is unforgettable. Later named a Great Dane Zebulon (Zeb) after the Mountain.

Good luck and stay safe!

Since there are no Tesla dealers, every Tesla shop is an independent.

OP- what class is he entered in? I'm local and will be watching. Hopefully the car has seen some higher altitude testing. If nothing yet, I hope they arrive plenty early for some testing ahead of practice. Performance and tuning at altitude is an entirely different process and they will have some issues. Hopefully TTFS will be available to help them out. I'd love to see the car finish the event.

There are locations that do maintenance and repair while you're under warranty, not any independently owned and operated Tesla shops as you can't purchase parts or DIY your own repairs directly from Tesla, you would have to source junk yard vehicles for parts.

While Its a shame this thread has been jacked by some random guys driving a Tesla- I appreciate everyone elses' support, including Expert@ApexRaceParts

Regarding high altitude tuning MilehighM3 -

Frank and I have discussed , and basically all we are going to have to do is adjust the MAF scaling parameters by doing a few base runs and sending him logs.

Luckily , there is 4 days of practice, with the first day being at the highest section. This will allow us to get the tuning right on day one, and hopefully survive the rest of the weekend.

This is a race against the mountain for us (and others), not other competitors.

Any chance I could get some more information about the DSC, and ABS work that you had done.
I run in a time attack race series

Very impressive build!

How is this car able to run two M4 aux radiators? Is one placed in front of the oil cooler, or? Also I am curious about the flow rate / power rating of the aux radiator booster pump and how it was configured. All three radiators in parallel or series or? AFAIK the M2 already had one booster pump from factory.

And finally, is the car actually able to stay cool in hot weather on track with that kind of power? Any data available?

Also an important part was left out - what brake pads does the car run on track?

He’s got a lot of detail on his own thread here on the forums but it kind of died

Great question! He's running 25mm front spacers to clear the suspension. We'll update the OP with this info as well.
