Exclusive Bimmerpost M2 CSL Render by Paul-Bracq-BMW

BIMMERPOST
     Featured on BIMMERPOST.com
04-25: Last version: new side air intakes to allow better cooling and distinctive look compared to the M2 Competition + rear view!

Hi all.

Now that the M2 Competition is out and is due to replace the "regular" M2, I thought it would be logical to make a higher performance version.

Since BMW has revived the "CSL" moniker, why not make such a version for the M2?

My CSL is a subtle upgrade of the M2 Competition, all for more performance.

Here are the visual enhancements...

- Reshaped side air intakes to allow better cooling & distinctive CSL look.
- Wider front/rear track & wider wheel arches to fit wider front/rear wheels & tyres.
- Lowered suspension
- Lowering of centre of gravity with carbon roof and carbon bonnet (from M4 GTS)
- Carbon side extension, carbon splitter from M4 CS & integrated rear wing inspired by the CSL concept car
- Carbon mirror caps & fangs
- 763M Forged wheels + CCB Brakes

Latest evolution with unique air intakes

Hope you like my renders ;-)

- Front & rear air exhausts outlets to expel air from inside the wheel wells (to combat drag).
- Carbon fibre roof.
- Carbon fibre dual pane wing (from the Vision GT concept) & boot. CSL logo.

Very nice render as always.

On a side note, that pic of the M2C is the best one I've seen yet of the 788M wheels - I think they actually look pretty good there.

I like the power hood. Too bad both versions of the M2s don’t have one.

the power hood is there for a couple of reasons: lightweight to decrease the front end weight, and better cooling for the engine because of the exhaust vent on top of the hood...

I can't see inside the car. Did you render a 6MT in there? Just say you did and I'll start saving my (10 million) pennies.

Consider this -
BMW M has confirmed the 4 model hiarachy with M lineup moving forward.

The logical next move from Competition would be a m2 CS in late 2019, from which you expect similar treatment to M3/4 CS.

CSL could follow in 2020 as MY2021, the last model year of F22/87. But that will affect the release of G80 M3, the core business for BMW M for the next 7-8 years. How do you expect BMW to position a CSL model? Slower than G80 which is a base M? Or faster than G80 which is supposed to be more upscale? BMW will not want to deal with that problem. So M2 CSL isnt happening in 2020.

It looks like the only way to make CSL happen is for BMW to skip M2 CS and jump right into CSL in 2019. But why would they do that? They would have a much less engineering and validiating process with CS and have a bigger production volume to recoup costs, without having problem selling each single CS they make. Why CSL then?

CSL can and will happen with G generation, but no one from BMW M has the motivation to realize it with outgoing F.

I think MR was able to confirm in his interview with the M boss that there could be one more model for the F87 M2, but it won't be a CSL. Could be a CS though.

BMW had a chance to make things right for everyone. They should have released a M2 CS for MY2019, not a competition as is happening right now. And a CSL for MY2020 as the M finale with F platform. But they chose to make more money by offering competiton at base price and screwing CSL plan.

OK back to topic. The way I want the CSL:
1) S58 engine, or S55 tuned to 460ps.
2) Hood, Roof, CSL style trunk, in carbon
3) Redesign lightweight fender.
4) Full titanium exhaust
5) Lithium Battery
6) less sound isolation
7) M4 GTS Seat and Roll Cage
8) KW sourced 3 way club sport
9) Lightweight Wheel (763m in grey will do)
10) CCB
11) Cup2

That could totally happen...for the G87.

It appears the G series M2 will get the 3rd version of the S58, so they've got plenty of time to plan for the "full lineup" so to speak, in terms of engine tune and other kit for the M --> MComp --> MCS --> MCSL progression.

Haven't some folks performed transmission swaps in the past? Would that be cost-prohibitive? I am guessing so...but surely you could sell the DCT, and I would imagine that the MT version of the tranny would be less expensive....

That integrated rear wing on the CSL really does it for me.

Also, all this talk of Comp, CS, and CSL versions for the M lineup is exciting stuff.

If a CSL model is officially announced for the M2 in the future, I will bow down to Frank.

I dont think people who buy the M2 are tge same who buy the M3. the main reason is the lack of room in the rear...

They would have a much less engineering and validiating process with CS and have a bigger production volume with it without having problem selling each single one they make. Why CSL then?

CSL can and will happen with G generation, no one from BMW M has the motivation to realize it with outgoing F.
I think MR was able to confirm in his interview with the M boss that there could be one more model for the F87 M2, but it won't be a CSL. Could be a CS though.
CS and CSL demoninations are getting a bit confusing aren't they??

OK back to topic. The way I want the CSL:
1) S58 engine, or S55 tuned to 460ps.
2) Hood, Roof, CSL style trunk, in carbon
3) Redesign lightweight fender.
4) Full titanium exhaust
5) Lithium Battery
6) less sound isolation
7) M4 GTS Seat and Roll Cage
8) KW sourced 3 way club sport
9) Lightweight Wheel (763m in grey will do)
10) CCB
11) Cup2
Sounds wonderful!!! I am in, but I need a 30-second remove/install-roll cage... I want to take the kids and car seats in and out at least once

S58 is not happening in current gen M2. First X3M/X4M gets S58, then G8x M3/M4, then maybe the next gen M2(3-4 years from now).

If there is a M2 CSL, my bet it gets the S55 with M4CS tune or M4GTS tune w/ water injection.
