+1 sound matters more when compared with pipe numbers. hell they can even put a single tail and it won't matter to me.

Function over Form

For me, it would be nice to have a great sound, and what I have heard is OK from what I can tell from posted videos. But, what matters is how a properly engineered exhaust system effects the car's performance.

Agree completely.

Lap times > power > noise.

A lap time is just a number.

Fun is filled with smiles.

It is somehow disappointing to see no functional aero improvements on M cars (but AMG and RS also), especially seeing what the new Alfa Giulia QV has.

There are plenty of functional aero improvements on M cars, I think your letting your love for Alfa take over your logic because that statement is just false.

To be honest, I have no interest in active aero. Just asking for more things to go wrong in the long run. As I said from day 1, I want a somewhat simple car, rwd, 6mt and somewhat back to basics

His statement is not false.

He means active aero and the QV has an active front splitter. It moves downwards to create more downforce (or to give the engine more cooling like the Alfa 90, I don't remember). And as far as I know, BMW does not have any active aero on their M cars.

You are saying that BMW M cars have as advanced aero as Ferrari? Because that is the type of aero the Giulia QV has. Of course the basic versions will not be like that, but the QV, equivalent to M, does.

Well, active aero is now on all high performance and high tech cars, including the i8. Ironically, the technically most advanced supercar, NSX II, has no active aero. As for back to basics, it just cannot be a BMW today. You'd have to look at some of these: Porsche GTs, Lotus, Alfa 4C, Twins (GT86/BRZ), MX-5.

But I was not talking about active aero, just normal. Alfa Giulia QV rear diffuser is functional, BMW F8X rear diffuser is cosmetic.

I'm not hating, just wish BMW improved, and I know they will, just as they did in the past like for example concerning brakes, seats, interior, etc...

No doubt the M2 will be for me the only BMW in the showroom that will interest me, that does not mean it is perfect and cannot be improved on, just as any other car.

A good lap time is a fun achievement.

But yeah, I suppose cruising the boulevard with "that stance" might be fun too.

Completely 100% irrelevant to me (key word). I know I don't have the skills to get that kind of time. A Z06 and GTR can set some of the most blistering times out there and I still have 0 interest in buying them.

If I'm looking at performance and lap times in the BMW lineup, I would have already decided on an LCI F80. But here I am on the M2 boards. I'll stand by the fact that fun is more important to me than pure performance.

Yup. I completely agree. I'll never lap Nurburgring in anything close to the BMW development drivers' times. I know that, and I'll never even try. :-( But that won't stop me from checking off that European Delivery Nurburgring lap to-do item from my bucket list.

What I should have said in my original post (about lap times being more important than a loud muffler) was that faster lap times, to me anyway, is a pretty reliable indicator of the fun factor of any particular car. Not just power. Responsiveness, precise handling, power, etc. I must have been in terse mode that day.

They are for fine-tuning components and setup, and also for testing reliability to the limit.

Sure, lap times are good for marketing purposes (who doesn't want to read articles saying that their car is faster than <insert_other_car_here> around the 'ring), but I think how well the car handles on that track is higher up on BMW's list of priorities.

I've actually had a chance to drive the Ring in a rental track prepped VW Scirocco and I promise you lap times were literally the last thing on my mind.

Thanks for pics OP. It clearly shows the M2 is getting the entire rear subframe from the M4 and all pertaining suspension pieces.

The M4 rear diff is visible. Now the question is...is there a carbon fiber shaft connected to it?

Good question, and I hope it will have CF driveshaft. Will be I interesting to about the front strut brace if M2 will have it. It clearly is functional.
