Undercarriage Pics: M2 vs M235i vs M4
To me, it looks like the M2's rear axle subframe bolts directly to the chassis, just like in the M4.

Indeed. I actually prefer it this way though. I've test driven the M3 and I found the N55 acceleration curve to be a little less clinical feeling in comparison, despite being slower. The N55 exhaust note is more entertaining too.

Right. I presume that is because the M4 is twin-turbo and thus uses a separate exhaust pulse for each turbo. The N55 uses a single downpipe because it uses one turbo.

Yes, cooling fins give that away. I like seeing the lighter, and stiffer, suspension members too.

Pc #4 in this diagram are bolts that fasten the rear subframe to the chassis. However in the picture of the M2 above, it appears that the car has the M4's rear subframe. The difference between the 235 and M2/4 can be spotted in the additional holes inboard of the mounting points for the camber control arms. Also, the control arms on the M2/4 are aluminum compared to the stamped steel of the 235. Last edited by Reid; 07-14-2015 at 07:28 AM.. |

Just really curious what you expected it to be? This is actually quite the norm as the 1M and E46 M3 have the exact same thing.

Hm, let's talk again after the reveal. Maybe you're gonna be surprised.

Let me know about next year's gathering at the Dolomites, let's get our priorities straight. And I hope you're right but let's not kid ourselves about a ton of compromises that will have to be accepted, along with the 1st generation M2. I wonder if this is some Cayman-like evolution whereby we get an "S" down the road, a GTS and then a GT4-like M2. Frankly, this couldn't happen soon enough. In the meantime folks like us will have to accept the current M2 or "settle" for an M3/4 or look elsewhere. Yes, all good problems, just a relative discussion here...that's all. P.S. I'm not budging on wanting twin exhaust pipes...connected to proper twin-turbo motor! |

I'm looking forward to the release and stoked for the early adopters as they need to pave the way for the future direction of the platform. |
