I don't think so. The 1M was a limited production car; BMW could afford to produce the car as manual only. All M cars from now on will be offered with DCT...I'm just happy that (for now) M is offering manuals at all! Offering the DCT is just a reality for the car to succeed...and I WANT it to succeed and I want M to build more cars like it. Don't get me wrong, I will buy manuals until I cannot and i love that my E39 M5 and Z4 M coupe were only offered with manuals. BMW, and BMW M in the end is a business and needs to be profitable to succeed. I hope they can while still offering a small segment of their customers what I am looking for!

Eye-rolled so hard I nearly fell out of my chair... because obviously you're not a true Scotsman... I mean enthusiast if you don't want a manual.

They want the car to be profitable so they will put more r&d into it to make it a better car. Thats how i see it. Of course it needs to be offered in more than a manual to make it worth their time and money. I would never buy a manual with the daily traffic I have to sit in but I will happily buy it with a dct.

I liked the 1M and Z4M being solely manual. Kept the posers away. Same thing for the GT3. But now the new GT3 gets only dual clutch, kinda ruins it.

Count me in the camp who thinks the M2 does not need to have an S55 and weigh 1400kg (3086lbs) in order to be substantially different than an M235, and an otherwise great car. It will certainly not be under 3100lbs, and it seems clear that the S55 has been ruled out, so let's be realistic...

The biggest difference will be the handling. Power and weight are just parts of the equation. The biggest is handling. The M suspension will be stiffer, wider, and more track-ready than the M235i which still has a comfort-oriented suspension with too much body roll. It would also have an M-LSD from the factory

What you're going to get from the M2 is this:
The tuned N55 Wider/bigger wheels/tires bigger brakes exterior body mods louder exhaust LSD some cool interior trim like the 1M had different suspension meaning all that stuff like control arms, dampers, springs, stiffer bushings, upgraded sways etc. sunroof delete will be standard Wish list: a carbon fiber roof seats similar to M3 What won't happen: weight stripping; that is just a ludicrous and overly optimistic expectation |
