Yes. I'm in for a M2. Can't wait to see spy shots. Which I imagine their should be m2 out there as it's only 1.5 years for the release and normally they take 2-3 year to develope a car if I'm correct.

In my mind, it is rather simple - the N54 was super easy to tune, and besides the non-related fuel pump issue, you don't hear of 400 BHP N54 monsters blowing up, or maybe I have missed that? Additionally, I believe that there are comments from BMW themselves, related to the forged internals of the N54...and that at one point, the original 135 with the N54 was considered to be developed as an M car...which later became the 1M...and I haven't ever heard that for an N55... The N55 itself, on the other hand, is not easy to tune, and from what I have read, it seems to be that you have to be careful above 360 BHP. I am pretty sure Dackel commented on this in the 400 BHP M235 thread if you want to look there... Perfectly happy to eat some crow if I am wrong, or misremembering - but in terms of "feel", the N54 always felt stronger than the N55, and I have had both.

Why?
You have read? It's an N55B30TO Nobody knows what exactly the extension "TO" means. At least it tells us that it is a completely new performance stage of the N55! It can introduce a lot of changes even to the "hardware". Think of forged crank shaft (like the modified N54 foer 1M/Z4is) or advanced forced induction system (bigger turbo or re-introduction of a real twin-turbo again - look at Alpinas new B3/B4, where they have added a second turbo to the N55 - so the technology is already there!) ... |

I am so unreasonably excited about the M2 and I'm so happy it's becoming semi-official that it's been greelit for production! I can't wait to hear what changes they've made to the N55 to warrant the T0 designation. |

The N55 is a proven ground, so I don't see any problems using it for the M2. Plus, I'm sure it's going to be improved in many ways to deliver that much power while still being reliable as you'd expect from BMW. The 1 M also had an N54 and yet the prices for used cars are higher than when it was brand new. Only you guys are bitching about the about it.
I'm very excited.

I understand the ECU argument - but we can also tell by the number of cars tuned that have N54s vs. N55s that there is a higher ceiling that is more easily achievable with the N54...at least that's the impression I have gotten from the board. I am clearly not an expert - just commenting on what the general tone has been on the threads I have read.

Jeees, all this speculating made me go ahead, and buy an M235i in the first place. I got really tired of waiting on an M2. I'll believe it when i see some spyshots of the car. And i guess we will have no problem hearing weather it's a 4 or 6 cylinder this time. At least i can drive a fun car for the next 3-4 years. An M2 will defenitly be my next car, if it's coming...it needs Sxx engine
