Wait, are you saying the 235i does not come standard with a staggered setup? The rear tires are not wider than the front? I thought this was part and parcel of the BMW package... I thought all BMWs came staggered (xi models excepted, of course).

Can a 235i owner confirm? If so, that's disappointing.

From the standpoint of someone buying and using up at least one set of tires per year, I'm happy with a non-staggered setup. But I would like wider than 7.5".

Ref:
http://www.bmwusa.com/Standard/Conte...fications.aspx

There, you should see:
Tires and wheels
Tire dimensions – standard225/40
Wheel dimensions – standard18x7.5

From inspection in the showroom, I can confirm the 225/40 part (I didn't get to the wheel markings on the inside of the wheels).

Perhaps this will be the E46 M3 reborn and on steroids.

Don't be surprised if they do. The 1M did run E9x ZCP wheels afterall. I know that was a low volume car, but I wouldn't be surprised if they ran these 18s. Which is fine by me because I think they look terrific on the mules. Looks better on the M2 than the M3/4 actually

The M235i comes with 225/245 tires on staggered wheels 7.5/8.5 x 18's. NOT a square setup. Don't believe everything on the inter-webs.

So the specs on the US web site are wrong?

I first looked in the showroom, and I was surprised to see what I thought were 225 all around (don't know about the wheels), although I admit the reading the rubber stamping is difficult at best. Are you positive?

I'm going to have to go by the showroom and have another look at the M235i there...

M235i ordered with all season tires will have a square setup. That's probably what your seeing at the dealership.

I'd like square, but not crazy expensive 19", and ideally 8" width for better after market options that match OEM (as you must for some kinds of competition). 18 x 8 all around would suit me just fine.
My US spec M235 has staggered rims with 225/245 tires. That should be the standard setup with PSS tires unless they changed it for 2015. If you order the optional all season runflats, though, you get a square setup.

I would consider a revised/totally reworked N54. I'm not buying an N55.

What about a revised/totally reworked N55 with fully forged internals and cooling borrowed from the M3/4?

I apologize for being so petty but if the engine doesn't get an "S" code, I don't want the M car. The 1M is the ONLY exception to that hard and fast rule. Let's see if they can catch lightning in a bottle twice. I will wait and see. The car looks to be great regardless of engine so I will wait for some comparos/reviews.

Meh. I should have remembered that. That was the case for the 135i when I got mine as well. Thanks for the explanation - the non-DCT automatic on the showroom car should have been a clue as well.

Ahh, square setup for all-season and staggered setup for the PSS. Good.

Thanks for the clarification.

It'll be plenty fast.

I know there's a contingent of folks who wish this thing could beat a GTR w/ FBO on air strip.... but I don't think I'm alone on that I'm most interested in the whole package (and major improvement in chassis/suspension hardware and tuning).

#1 on my dealer's list.
Agreed. All out power and speed are not a priority when this car will probably trap 110-115. That's plenty fast but it's how it drives that counts. Those who are looking for ridiculous horsepower numbers don't understand why the Cayman, Miata, S2000, E46 M3, BRZ, etc are such great cars to get in and just drive. We're not all looking for the fastest lap or stoplight drag.
