AGM v. Flooded Cell (Error - AGM in M2C)

BIMMERPOST
     Featured on BIMMERPOST.com
Every new vehicle I have purchased recently has either an AGM or a lithium battery. The 2021 M2C has an old school flooded cell.

Is there a valid reason to spec a flooded cell battery other than cost-cutting?

EDIT- I was wrong. Once I looked more closely, I see that it is an AGM battery. KevinC (below) was correct.

I'd say it's just about the money.

I think it was originally put in the trunk to help with the nearly 50/50 weight distribution, and it probably still does. A significantly lighter battery would throw it off some.

I've never seen one with anything but AGM.

Considering a replacement battery for the m4 costs like $1k. I’m glad we got the AGM battery instead.

Oops! My mind went straight to Antigravity batteries when I saw AGM.

I saw the vent tube and I assumed it was a flooded cell. You may be 100% correct.

Thanks,

Really? Does the M4 use a lithium battery?

Yep, Lithium. Also the 1k was a bit light. Looks like its 1200 for the generic versions and around 2k if you want a BMW battery.

It's AGM, says so right on the battery. BMW has always vented AGM batteries, nothing new there.

Well, at that price, one would hope for a long lifespan.

Perhaps the price will come down if that part becomes a more common spec across makes and models.

I'm using Lithium from these guys…https://www.lithiumax.com.au/
$800, 4kg, no trickle charge, starts first kick every time even after sitting for several weeks.
They have a fitting kit too.
Had one in both my track cars too.
