It's a tricky one. Although a small number of s55 have this problem the design is well proven with a lot of BMW R&D and multiple millions of road miles.

So you have to be careful when a small shop comes up with a magic "fix" with no reliability data on such a critical part. As we know a failed fix (broken gear or complete loss of friction) is worse than the OE design simply slipping a little.

I personally have to favour the Lichfield fix, but I'm in no rush to dive in yet...

Re VTT, unless their hub is made from harder metal than the forged crank (unlikely) it will not make a mark on it.

Makes sense. I would like to know more about Litchfield's solution, and what makes it superior to the alternatives. I will admit I didn't read the entire article, and will when I have time.

The VTT spline hub has already failed on the N54 Ghassan setup (same crank hub design). It's been proven not to work. No failures on the MaxPsi or Gintani setups with many high power setups running them.

As an aside; anyone who has ever seen VTT personally race their vehicles...let's just say reliability is a problem for them. I'll never own a VTT product given their poor track record.

No worries on hijacking my topic, but what is the answer...

Litchfield or no Litchfield solution, that is the question here.

I am bringing my car to the UK in June I think so...

I think your best bet is to do nothing, until your warranty is done.

If you don't care about the warranty, and want some piece of mind, do the Litchfield bolt catch. As that has not yet failed on a car.

I believe even Lichfield is saying that unless your car has already spun the hub, there is no cause yet to go all the way and do their full solution.

So I guess it really all comes down to your thoughts on your warranty, how your dealership feels about these things in regards to your warranty, and how much piece of mind you'll get by the solutions that are offered.

Given the information I've seen, but have not yet personally gone through any of it, my opinion is just that... an opinion.. But if I could get away with it warranty wise, I'd try to get the bolt catch from Lichfield just for piece of mind. But I wouldn't want to void my warranty.

I have removed the KIA feature from the M2C. Now it is more like part of the BMW M2 family again... Happy with how it turned out.

Yeah, I know I also want to fit my new suspension and wheels, but they aren't here yet. I need to wait until June, so in the meantime I decided to do this.

Two weeks ago I fitted a set of Pagid brake pads at the front as a first test. On the autobahn at 250+ it is a lot better like this.

MR, it would be nice to see that from a distance, it's hard to guage the effect close up.

I am aware of that but these were the quick photos the painter made.

More to come!

Yes please, have a HK on order and want to know what it looks like. It was the front end feature I hated the most but am slowly getting used to.

Ben je binnen kort rond Den Haag? en is je spuiter hier of in CZ?

Car is in Czech Republic. I will have it back in NL in June. It was done by a local BMW dealer in Czech Republic who has a body shop and paint booth.

As soon as I have some photos at a distance I will share them here with you.

So how did the bigger brakes behave on track with these Pagid pads and oil? Better then the smaller blue brakes?

I have not driven it on track yet. No time... I only have pads, not the oil.

High speed driving on the autobahn is better already. Just less fading if you have to brake a few times from high speeds.

Finally my wheels arrived and I fitted them today BBS FI-R done! You can also now see the painted stripe better, which divides my front grille in two.

I will lower my car next week with the AST 5100 suspension and I will fit a set of AC Schnitzer side skirts.

Did you consider the AST 5200s? Any thoughts on 2 way vs 1 way adjustability? Did you ask for custom spring rates? I bought an Audi in Europe that had AST struts already installed, they were awesome.

Afternoon!

Do these rims give better clearance over the big brake calliper? Are yours 19"?

Thanks, Ben

They are 19 and I have not really looked at the clearance yet.

Yeah I looked at the 5200, but I am not too fussed. 5100 is fine for me. I am like 4 times a year on a track. I discussed custom springs, but I have not yet seen what they have made for me. We will install it Wednesday at the AST HQ.

Visited AC Schnitzer yesterday and had a set of side skirts fitted to the car. I was planning to do the lowering with a full suspension kit today, but we have a parts issue with the top mounts. No lowering today and not sure when. For now it is driving up in the air until we have the right parts to lower it properly.
