I had the dealer update my vehicle software because I noticed the vehicle pulling to the right a bit. Apparently someone on these forums posted there was some software update to correct that. They said ( I don't have the link to post handy) "SIB 32 01 17. The vehicle needs to be programmed with the "steering assistance" retrofit option checked"

So I told the service place that and they said they did the update and kept my car overnight to do the "programming"

Have not noticed anything dramatically different on mine (DCT), but it has seemed louder on start up 2 or 3 times now which caught me by surprise but I figured it was just my imagination or just happened to be somewhere with a great echo..... Also the steering felt a lot lighter than I remembered it being in comfort when I stepped into on pickup.

Anyway no idea if I had all the same updates as the OP..... whatever they did though made me have to recode all the stuff I did with Bimmercode.

Sometimes no, sometimes yes. It would all depend but if I were you I would flash it back to stock before taking it to dealer.

Just went in to talk to my SA. Wasn't aware of this, so I had him read this forum post. He said he would advice against it until he knew what all was included with the update. He looked it up in his computer and found the update. He said there was no description of what all was effected. Does anyone here have that actual list?

I also heard this too, I know 3x SA and they all recommend against it unless your car has a problem or if when they connect it "IT CALLS FOR IT". There's been a few guys that also said their cars were slower or made less power after updates.

A software update with no release notes...sounds like a great idea

I'm sure the SAs are shitting their pants about potential monthly software updates that are coming down the pipe...Tesla is doing wireless updates right? Why do we have to go to a dealer to get the latest software for a car? Why isn't that coming direct from BMW after a thorough regression test?

Tesla already does over the air updates. Tesla even sends real world driving information from their vehicles for future development of autonomous driving.

Yes, Tesla was the only auto maker at one point (and perhaps still is the only one) to have every piece of software/firmware updatable OTA. The real world driving data is for training their AI model.

That SIB requires a different programming than mine. your ISTEP is slightly newer by about a month...

HOWEVER!!! that SIB requires a "retrofit" called pull-drift compensation.. which basically adds programming to tweak the steering when it detects that you're compensation for pull-dirft manually and holds the steering in that position.

My car slightly pulls to the right but its not anything to worry about, your steering feel changes are probably due to that.

BMW doesn't do release notes period for the cars. The general rule of thumb is, if it ain't broke don't fix.. this is why we have forums for people to help out. I'll happily update your car if you want

yeah... there's something called risk management. ofc your SA will not recommend it, it isn't standard BMW policy... and there's always a risk of a bug or something happening during the programming process. However with the new ethernet systems in the cars, as long as you have a stable voltage supply I haven't had any issues.

The older cars over KDCAN + MOST BUS commonly had issues. Unless there's a dyno chart of said software update I doubt it. It's possible the car feels different due to different tuning.. Mine certainly does with how it controls the wastegate now.

Also back in N54 days there was a point in time where the car did indeed make slightly less power due to a less aggressive tip in of the wastegate duty cycle to combat wastegate rattle.

I don't think so currently. Can you pull up your NBT version? It should be under Navigation. If you go into one of the options menu ( by hitting option on idrive ) you should be able to find the area with software version or map version or something along those lines.

You will then see your map version, along with the NBT_ version #. I can probably try to cross reference.

Or the easiest way is to just head to your local BMW dealer with whom you have a good relationship with and have them read your key and give you the print out. ISTEP version will be on there.

Curious about doing this for the pull drift. My car does slightly pull right even after having it weighted aligned with me in the car.

So uh, does that mean I got the updates you got and some newer stuff too? Or did I just get a specific update for the steering? Forgive my ignorance.

Only the dealer can do the pull drift retrofit. I'm almost 100% sure it requires a FSC code and latest ISTA/ISPA in order to get the retrofit code activated.

Correct you got the latest updates ( newer than mine by about a month or two, and the specific retrofit upgrade/update for the steering. ) It's not ignorance! if anything it's the complete opposite of being ignorant.

This update did nothing at all for my buddy's M2. He had high hopes as I hyped him up to get it to maybe improve things while stock.

Yeah.. Pretty sure bmw isn't issuing engine tunes via software updates. Placebo

The best way to test is, get 2 stock M2/DCT.. One with latest and one with whatever it came with to verify. Get them side by side and do 0-60, 0-100, 30-110mph

I was getting my 1200 break in service done by my buddy the other day and we browsed the notes for the 4.06 update. F87 is not listed anywhere as being applicable. Neither is the F20 series which the F87 falls under.

Is this the iStep version?

If not, where can you find it in the iDrive Settings? This was the only versions i could find when I was searching around...

Go to your map, hit the option button > nav settings > position and software version > software version.

It'll look something like the attached pic.

Now where's the reference where we can translate this version to the ISTEP version?

Old thread, I know, but saw a reference to this in general and got curious.

My car is a non LCI week 5 2017.
