One of my biggest recent regrets is chickening out on the 1M and buying a 135i. I love my 1er, but there is always this little regret at the back of my mind that I should have taken the plunge. To be honest, if I had gone for the 1M back then, I probably would not be buying an M2 this year - my 1M would have ~40K on it and be good for another 5 years. But since I didn't... I would much prefer a new M2 over a used 1M. Comparing the looks should be easy, but it is apples to oranges... or should I say blueberries to oranges? The 1M looks more like a tuner (a very nice looking tuner), while the M2 is more refined - sleek, low and aggressive looking. I love the looks of both... though I haven't seen the M2 IRL yet. Now the hard choice, do I sell my 135i when my M2 ship comes in? Or turn it into a tuner with that nice N54 engine? |

10 days after your response, i took a flight to Oslo to pick up the car.
Got picked up at the airport by the dealier in a acid green M4. Best decision in my life ever! Never thought i could fall in love with a car, but i was wrong. I think i would rather sell my wife, than to part with the 1M. No M2 envy at all |

Wow. they pretty much nailed it. It's actually a bit of a shame that most BMW M owners won't likely get a chance to drive a 1M.. at least the M2 gets them close |

Bimmerfile review: "The M2’s steering feedback and feel is good. And that’s not meant to be faint praise. It’s truly M car good and decidedly better than the new M3 and M4. Great, but how does it compare to the benchmark of the 1M? As good as the M2’s EPAS system is, it simply doesn’t come close to delivering the beautiful nuances and subtleties found in the 1M. Driving both cars back to back to back it was clear to all of us that the driver of the 1M was more engaged with the road. We’ve said it before and it still holds true. The 1M is analogue in its feel and interaction. As good as the M2’s steering is, it doesn’t quite come to life like the 1M’s. It’s the digital version of the 1M’s analogue." If I never drove an 1M, the M2 would tick all my boxes. Especially since the (global) 1M factory options list was even shorter than the M2's. Yet [on driving engagement] the M2 "Simply doesn't come close to the 1M", acknowledges the 1M has become the long-term reference of it's segment. One remarkable point that some of the reviews touch upon: from my point of view the so-called rawness of the 1M has never translated to scary situations that any successor needed to "improve" on. |

Lol Congrats man! I just bought my 1M last weekend and I'm so glad I did it. Totally fall in love with her now haha. I also preordered a M2, guess I'll pass it to someone here. |

I picked up my new M2 over the weekend. i absolutely love it, still in the break in mileage comparison so hard to compare directly with my 1M.
1M has better steering feel and is "hair on fire" every time you drive the car. M2 has a comfort mode, 1M does not. M2 in sport mode is equal to 1M. My conclusion M2 = perfect daily driver 1M = weekend thrill ride. Even more of a thrill is my 2001 S54 M coupe but I guess that is a different comparison. If you want a car that's great at everything get an M2. If you want one of the best driving cars ever, 1M. I wouldn't sell a 1M to get an M2 unless you need a daily driver. M2 has much more room in the back seat and has a comfort mode for your daily commute, it rev matches, etc. You really can't go wrong with either.
