If it's just an add on then no worries. If it is molded into the inner wheel liner then removing it would be a headache and then you'd have to buy a new liner.

Phew, at least the Aussie cars don't get this.
I'm a tad worried my build would have this but it seems like this is a European thing.

I have heard that those extended fenders are related to a new regulation in europe of the wheels popping out of the arches, but just rumours.
In the Dealer are not sure about it. I will expect to receive the car and check how it looks and if it is easy to remove or not. I believe that some protection for the paint from stone proyections of the weels will add. |

Just make the fenders wider! That's the sexiest part of this car anyway!

I think the purpose of the fender flares is pretty well established. As you indicate, related to how far the tires extend outward in relation to fender margin. Fender flares are intended to protect OTHER cars on the road from debris stirred up by YOUR tires. Still, as stated in previous post, I question the utility of the fender flares as positioned on the M2C. Per pic below, the area where most debris will be 'flung' is not covered by the flare. Regarding protection of the YOUR paint . . . again, the area of paint most in jeopardy of damage by debris is not even protected by the flares. Overall, the flares do not bother me in appearance, but they do not appear to offer much intended utility in current position. Again, I suspect they will be quite easy to remove if undesirable. ///AVM |

My car doesn't have them on the front and I have a nice scratch on the flat area circled except closer to 12 o'clock. The scratch spans the distance of the flat region. I can only assume a rock was kicked up from the tire. I suspect these little flares would have prevented this. It does have them on the rear, and no scratches.

I think the most efficacious approach would be to have the flare extend to cover the entire posterior margin of the fender (e.g., to include the part I circled in prior image). A few comments. . . The flares are not in place to protect your vehicles, as you know. However, as you suggest, if present, they would offer protection to the fender paint. The flares ARE in place to protect other vehicles on the road and, if extended to cover the entire posterior margin of the fender, would seem to offer more effective protection. I think I am going to be the 'odd man out' again when it comes to exterior aesthestics . . . the flares do not bother me, nor do the 'road scars' my paint might not otherwise accrue if the flares were present. I guess owners of vehicles in which the flares come equipped will have to decide to leave them or remove them? 'Look' of the flares versus paint protection they might offer. As for Kutta's suggestion that BMW should just make the fender wider . . . well, my rudimentary cost analysis tells me which one would be significantly less expensive. Get used to the fender flares where required by the powers that be. ///AVM |

No. Nothing that I could see vs the 2020 options. My dealer also let me know that there was no price change and I would not have to redo any paperwork.

I gotta say, I'm little disappointed I was wrong about predicting some new add-ons, for the end-of-model but it seems the CS was the upgrade.. |

Not sure how the decision will impact sales of 20' models sitting on dealership lots, for better or for worse, if at all? Intuitively, there were probably many prospective buyers who were holding out to see if anything 'new' would be made available? Now that it seems there will be nothing 'new' available, I suspect many such buyers will jump on available builds to expedite ownership experience? Perhaps garner discounts on the 'older' model that might not be as readily available with new builds? Not sure how important it is to prospective buyers to purchase a model with 21' tag over the 20' tag? Seems those who are not pressured by time or need have nothing to lose by placing build for 21' and waiting until October/November for deliveries to start rolling off the docks. JC, I know your basis of securing a 21' chassis resided more with fact that you wanted to build your own and enjoy the experience from build to first launch. Also, you are not particularly pressured by time, and I suspect October/November is an acceptable time frame to wait to get exactly what you want. Not sure if you represent the majority, or if the 20' models will start to fly off the lots, so to say? ///AVM |

I've noticed those fender things on the BYO for a while...are they on the U.S. bound MY2021s?

However, in the United States and Canada are identified and regulated by model year, whereas other markets use production date (month/year) to identify specific vehicles, and model codes in place of the "year" (model year) in the North American make-model-year identifier. So in essence, the model year change is for identification process and not to in typical sense of adding or changing options and features. |

///AVM - I definitely thought about picking something off the lot now that PCD may be delayed, etc. Also, I would ideally want to receive the car in August / September, not necessary September / October, so this is a bummer.
However, the biggest drivers for me to default to ordering from factory are cost and spec. Out of the 26 available HS MT vehicles, only ~3 have orange interiors. However, you would also have to factor in cost of transporting the car to me. In addition, these dealers are not willing to discount to what I am getting OTD to my ordered '21 car (this may change when more vehicles arrive on our shores). In my mind, a cannot justify getting a '20 at a higher cost than '21 M2C. Even though it would mean I would get a '20 much earlier... |

I'm surprised that this is mandated, but a simple splash/mud guard is not. There must have been some studies done by the EU around the "trajectory of flying debris"
