Thinking about trading my m3 for my buddies m2
25k miles on my m3. 2018 M3 has executive pack, driver’s assistance pack, carplay 9k miles on the m2 comp 2019 M2 has executive pack and CarPlay Black/blue interior Both cars are in great condition. Did anyone make the switch and regret it? I feel like I maybe bored with the dct and the m3. But the m2 has many less “features” 6 speed is a big selling point to me. I no longer need the back seats. Will I miss the HUD? Does the m2 have 360cam (maybe sounds dumb but I love this feature) Anything else I should consider? Car gets maybe 2000 miles per year. |

The M2 will be more nimble and playful. Weight will probably be close to the same with a sleight edge to the M2 based on 6spd vs DCT. M2 is a bit shorter overall (about 8"). Wheelbase is also a bit shorter (about 4") which helps with the nimbleness. M3 interior is often referred to as "nicer" although I never felt the M2 interior as lacking (definitely a personal thing). No HUD or 360 camera as others have mentioned. I prefer the DCT but can see where the 6spd could be enjoyable at 2k miles per year. Again purely subjective though.
Between the two the M3 would be more the "cruiser" vs the M2 more the "sports car" (although neither is a slouch at all). When pushed they are both excellent cars and a lot of fun. I do give the nod to the M2 here though.

Thanks all! I'm leaning towards trading since the M2 seems like it would be more fun/engaging to drive.
that being said, I am sad tho I just got a brand new set of 18" wheels for the M3 that haven't even been installed yet and im seeing they wont fit the M2 without either changing to AP front brakes or doing the racing brake bracket / rotor kit lol. |

i made the move. went from 6 speed f80 to a dct m2c as a daily driver.
i wouldn't go back to an M3 or M4. I dont really miss anything about it other than you could spec different interior colors and the wind noise / nvh was less when you're doing 80-90mph on the highway.

I had all the bells and whistles in the F80. Immediately, I noticed that the M2C is what I expected from the M3 in the first place. Definitely more fun, nimble, almost 2 years later still puts a smile on my face every time I drive it. It has everything that is necessary, nothing extra (360 camera, HUD...). It is louder (less insulation) than the F80, however, fairly quiet While cruising in an "Efficient" mode (I picked up the car in DC and drove to to Dallas first two days of ownership, 1250 miles). The F80 feels more luxurious (features, leather quality...). Between the two, I'd choose the M2C any day...however, now I need the back seat so I placed the order for an G80 and my lovely M2C will go for sale some time in May 2021 M2C 6MT, BSM, slick top, with less than 8,000 miles. PPF'd front, great condition, no chips, dings or anything, just a small wheel scratch... |

Man, i'd love to own an M2 on Hawaii. Way better for the roads there IMHO (granted i'm generalizing) but you're not driving for 3 hours in a straight line like you are in some other places.

I happen to be in the perfect position to provide feedback. I have a 20 m2c executive slick top 6mt and a 18 m3 zhp executive/drivers assist, slick top dct.
Amenities: depending on spec they are virtually identical. The m2 is missing the hud, 360 cams, blind spot monitoring, logic surround settings, competition seats and adaptive suspension (only found on the m2cs). Power: technically the m2 is down on power compared to the m3, but you would be hard pressed to really tell imho. Drivetrain: I will say the m3 dct is a marvel and makes the car truely feel fast. Hard to explain but there is something lost with the 6spd in that regard. Now don’t get me wrong, the m2 6spd is no slouch but there is just something the seat of your pants feels differently due to the delay between shifts. That being said the m2 is more engaging and the m3 feels more grownup to me. Handling: the m2 is by far more nimble and agile and certainly more tail happy than the m3. Even with both cars in mdm mode the m2c tail will wiggle while the m3 you can feel the safety systems intervene more quickly. Unsure if it’s internal design settings or vehicle size or tire width differences, but the m2 will swing its tail out more easily. Comfort: From a cabin perspective one might be able to forget which car they are in when sitting in the drivers seat since the design language is one in the same. Drive on the highway or a bumpy road and you will quickly know which car you are in. The m3 is simply more comfortable, at least in my opinion. Fun factor: I could go either way. I daily the m3 and enjoy the m2 on nice days. |

What are you waiting for? Make the trade. You don’t need HUD this ain’t no fighter jet! Yes, the M2 has less features and that’s the point. Just engaging and always enjoyable. Come on and make us proud!
