They were able to make mine slightly thinner than OE, so I assumed that the leather was removed.

I'm not sure how they did it but this is the order spec from them.
I've been on to Royal Steering Wheels today hoping now they could do it thinner than stock, but still they're saying no (well sort of)...

They can remove leather from a heated wheel if I request it prior to wrapping in alcantara, but I have to waiver liabiliity if the heating gets damaged / broken

I'm the exact opposite. Swapped the alcantara one out for a leather one as soon as I got home from the dealership.

I can still use the heating function.

I had the M2 CS Alcantara steering wheel in my M2C handset.
It's a bit sensitive.

Nice. This is much more tasteful and understated then some of the other wheels people have with 20 different colors, 6 different materials, and 100 different contours. Like many things, less is more.

I‘ve the F80 M3CS alcantara one, very happy but looks a bit worn already, even if you are very gentle with it..

I have the BMW M Performance Alcantara steering wheel. Love the thicker 10 and 2 o'clock and the flatter bottom. I wish the bottom is as flat as Audi but at least it's better than the OEM steering wheel. Just put a pair of soft bristle brush in your glovebox and gently brush the Alcantara after every drive to release the oil, and clean it with Sonax Alcantara cleaner once every few weeks, and you're guaranteed to keep it in pristine condition.
