Strange rubbing sound at idle

I’ve noticed that there is a strange rubbing noise that comes in 5ish second intervals randomly whenever I am idled and the engine is warm. It doesn’t sound like metallic grinding, more like rubbing, almost as if someone was rubbing my windshield with a squeegee.

Anyone else have this issue?

Where? in the cabin? in the engine bay? heard outside?

I can only hear it from the inside of the car, tried listening for it outside but couldn’t hear it, even with my ear to the hood or right next to the exhaust.

could it have anything to do with the pcv leaking or valve cover gasket? You could search it up on yt and see if your sound is similair then the could be the issue.

How many miles does your car have?

It’s not hissing so I’m confident it’s not that. My car has almost 18000 miles now but I couldn’t hear the sound yesterday so I might have been bugging.

Ahh ok good to hear, couldnt really imagine what the sound of rubbing from the engine bay was so just took a wild guess. Anyways best of luck from a fellow m2 owner✌️

I mentioned that every video I’ve tried to capture has not been able to pick it up. The sound seems like it’s gone now because I haven’t noticed it in a while.
