Roadtrip without PPF

Quick question, Just picked up a M2 Comp and driving 900 miles home and dealer says the car does not have PPF. Thoughts on painters tape just to give the paint a fighting chance on the way home?

Yeah I think that's your best bet assuming you can't get your hands on some track tape

All depends on if you are going to buy PPF. I have never put PPF on any of my cars.

I bought in Colorado Springs and drove it home to Seattle. No ppf. No damage. I've never ppf a car and I have trouble justifying the price of ppf vs. repainting long term.

That said I want to stealth wrap ppf this car.

I either buy a car so used and its too late or I sell too fast, My TTRS I never PPF'd and surprisingly at 17k miles its super mint still. I do think I will do front bumper though

if you really want to protect it, get track wrap.

Yea i would,

Definitley on a brand new car, keep it taped up/protected until the ppf is on!
Then put a ceramic coat on it.

Its worth it, your car will look brand new for the next 10 yrs minimum

I never ppf. I would suggest however, that you maintain enough following distance on the highway to avoid rocks and stones

My car is not PPFed, when I bought it already had some rock chips and PPF looks like crap over already rock chips so did not want to spend 2 grand for that.

I am going to track this car very soon and don't want to get it worst than it needs to be so I was looking for solutions and I think I am going to go with this

https://www.roadwarriorplus.com/

Seems pretty nice, easy to apply, easy off, doesn't look like shit like blue tape (and probably protects more). Tracwrap will protect the most though but pain to apply.

If I had bought this car new I would PPF, 100% worth it imo. There is no maintain distance and you won't get rock chips, if you drive the car without ppf you will get rock chips, plain and simple. Also some places worst than others but this car has REALLY thin paint, you look at it and it chips.

I have ppf and there are already areas where the ppf took a beating. Your area and mileage may vary. I plan on re-doing the hood and rear fenders later this year.

What brand of ppf and how long has it been on the car?

+1 for Tracwrap or just use painter's tape.

I did for my drive from NY to TN and it held up well when it wasn't raining.

Xpel and since it was new. About 4 years ago. For whatever reason, lots of debris seems to find it’s way to my car. Also the road that I take to work appears to be under construction continually for the last decade. So that’s fun to drive through.

Why are you keeping it such a short time?

Was curious as well on this as that's a deciding factor in my opinion.

I simply can't understand how someone can own an expensive car without having it PPF'd, especially if they are going to be driving the car on the highway.

I'd 100% recommend some sort of tape on the front, and rockers if I were going to drive the car 900 miles, it's super cheap insurance.

Myself, I'll never own a nice car without PPF.

I have 22,000 miles on my car, and literally no chips.
