Do I need a new tire?

Was driving on the freeway when another car decided to fling a wood plank in front of my car. Took a chunk off the sidewall of the tire and damaged the wheels. Unfortunate that I’ve only had the tires for <5000 miles but I’d rather be safe than sorry. Wheels were damaged but I can live with that. Any help is appreciated!!
If I need a new tire, should I just replace the one or multiple?

Don't risk any damage to the sidewall - blowing a fire is never worth the damages

If you got the tire from discount tire and bought the insurance, go get another one from them. You don’t need to get 2 unless you absolutely want to but it would help keep the wear even on both sides. If you buy 2, you could save the other good tire for a rainy day if this happens again.

Thanks for all the help. Looks like I'll be driving slowly for awhile until the new tire comes in.

Too bad about the wheel - they are not easily repaired, especially with that sort of damage. I would definitely look into your comprehensive coverage on your insurance - that's what it is for. I do have a standard 437M rear wheel with very slight clear coat damage from a tire machine if you're interested.
