I have 9k miles on my 2017 M2 purchased Jan '17. Went to the dealer and they reco'd changing the sparks plugs for $800. I didn't get it done as it seems quite early.
Think I can wait another year and 3k miles? |

My 2018 M2 is at 16k. Went in for an oil change, and they told me my air filter and spark plugs are also due. I told him it's odd plugs are due so early, but he said "Hey, it's free so why not?"
I wonder if it's something they're doing to condition buyers into thinking this stuff needs to be changed sooner. This way, after warranty runs out, they will come in for service more often and dealership makes more money. If I had known they wanted to do my plugs, I would've researched if I wanted to go a step colder and ordered them for put it. Last edited by Anthony1s; 08-06-2020 at 08:56 AM.. |

They didn't short change you 7K miles.
Service intervals are determined by time or CBS. Mileage is a rough estimate at best. https://www.autoblog.com/2016/08/31/...-service-indi/ https://www.knauzbmw.com/condition-b...nformation.htm |

And if it's time based, I have a hard time believing spark plugs should be changed every 1.5 years. Also to note, iDrive never told me I needed spark plugs and a intake filter. So I wouldn't have known if I wasn't told that by the dealership. For example, if I go to my regular mechanic after my warranty is up. And, on a lesser note, my intake filter is about 4 months old. At the end of the day, only way I would know for sure if I needed new spark plugs is if I was experiencing misfires... which I wasn't. Or by looking at the condition of the plugs, which I didn't ask for them to show me so they're probably in the trash by now. |

I had my plugs done at 3 years with about 5k-6k km on the clock. So it is time based too, it was also free.

I'm not sure they actually changed mine. My work order says "customer requested" and "will be due at 60k miles"
Which isn't true. The service manager said my key told him I needed them. |

I came in for a blinker fluid discussion.

Are you implying that's a scam?? My dealership flushes my blinker fluid twice a year with distilled water and refills it with top of the line BMW brand synthetic fluid sourced from the Ozark Mountains. They even give me a 15% discount on parts and a complimentary car wash.

I've stopped going to the dealer for blinker fluid as they charge 3x as much as the non-BMW blinker fluid and I've found the 3rd party fluid performs better. In fact, I dynoed my car with both the OEM blinker fluid and the 3rd party and picked up 12hp with the 3rd party. Blinks faster too.

Just remember the e46 was NA and the m2 is turbo charged which means spark plugs are consumed faster and the high cylinder pressures can blow out the spark easier meaning healthy plugs are vital.
