My service adviser at the dealership is telling me they have to take the car for a "long drive" to check for problems as part of the 2,000km run in service, which is why it takes a whole day to perform the service. The part of the service can't be skipped.

Are they taking me (and my car) for a ride?
Wtf? Yes they're fucking you. If they insist then I say sit in the car with them

+1 my run in service took 1 hour.

Engine and diff oil that's it. And we have to pay for it in the UK and they still did it in 1 hour...

Mine took almost 2 hours, but the place was absolutely slammed. The tech took didn't drive it, other than around the parking lot and into the spot.

That sounds pretty shady. Can anyone chime in about this? (EDIT: Whoops nvm, didn't see above responses!)

Got the service done and they did actually end up driving it. They clocked around 4 KMs on the car, I couldn't be bothered arguing with them anymore at that point.

Finally at 1100 miles, so I booked my Break-In Service for next Friday!

Took me almost a year, lol.

Email I received after confirming the appointment was:

Requested Services:

M STANDARD SCOPE
RUNNING IN CHECK

The heck is a "Running In Check"?

The running in check is the initial engine and diff oil change at 1200 miles.

Usually in the first few months of ownership.

I suppose you need two services in one. The running in service and the first year service?

M Standard Scope is added after the break-in service to let you target higher power cars for street races. The M Standard Scope is the top of the line one you can buy at Cabela's.

The Running in Check replaces the Conti tires with Nike brand tires, which feature additional arch support for higher endurance.

Really though. The M Standard Scope is an inspection of the car. Fluid levels, bulbs, upholstery condition, battery condition, suspension condition, tire condition, etc.... The running in check is the break-in service. Replace diff fluid, activate launch control, etc. I agree the wording is confusing. Assume it's translated from german.
