What did you expect? It's 10 seconds faster than the Competition, and 16 seconds faster than the OG M2.

So my "± 07:43" guesstimate of December 2019 for the M2 CS was 0.01 seconds off.

Interested to also know the Nürburgring Nordschleife laptime of the original M2 (M-DCT) and the M2 Competition (M-DCT) when equiped with the same wheelset (763M lightweight wheels featuring Michelin Pilot Sport Cup2 tires) instead of the heavier 437M or 788M wheels featuring Michelin Pilot Super Sport tires.

Some considerations:
  • FWIW: back in January 2016 a German source stated that already in 2015 BMW was testing an M2 pre-production car with the S55 engine (instead of the N55 engine) and that it lapped the Nürburgring Nordschleife "more than 8 seconds faster than the M4" (see here); remember that the Sport Auto M4 lap time was 07:52 (see list here);
  • M2 Competition lap time:
    • reference is usually made to the 07:52.36 lap time by Sport Auto (Horst von Saurma) in October 2018 (M-DCT M2 Competition - no manual) (see list here + full lap video here);
    • Sport Auto pinned the following comment under its video: "Hi guys, just one more information: The official lap time of BMW M testdriver Jörg Weidinger in the M2 Competition was 7.50 min";
  • during the closed room M2 CS preview event in Brussels (Sep 17), a BMW guy mentioned "about 10 seconds faster than the M2 Competition";
  • on the M2 CS release day (Nov 6), a Belgian YouTuber posted an M2 CS walkaround video (see here); he mentions (02:35-02:40) that the M2 CS laps the Nürburgring "8 seconds faster than the M2 Competition".
As 07:42 is the lap time of the first generation Porsche Cayman GT4 (981) (manual, of course - no PDK) clocked By Sport Auto (Christian Gebhardt) in 2015, I hope that the M2 CS manages to perform that lap time. I think that it's gonna be a close call (± 07:43).

The sirens startled the crap out of me when I was watching. I thought it was coming from another office. I had never heard the noise before. It sounds like the alarm that one our radiation devices make.

He even took a little ride in the grass.

FWIW: as regards the MSRP for the US-spec M2 CS, my September 2019 guesstimate turned out to be $405 off mark (see here and here).

Id have to watch the video again to see if he got out of the throttle, and if so, how much. That would have made my butthole pucker. I wouldn't think it would cost more than a second unless he was completely off throttle.

Edit: rewatched in slow motion a few times...kinda hilarious. He didn't seem to miss a beat. Accelerometer shows a slight slowdown, but he was back in the throttle while in the grass. Engine rpm barely dipped. If it cost anything it would likely only be .1s maybe.

I think there are still a number of sedans faster than the M2CS on the Nurburgring from BMW, Alfa, Tesla, and Porsche.

Sure, but does that mean it is more fun and rewarding to drive? Which one wins the smile per miles metric?
