My guess is it’s a split on the backside of the leather, designed to allow it to rip along a controlled edge during airbag inflation.

Andrew, I'm guessing you're already thinking along these lines, but that seems like your basic everyday ass-covering, grab a can opener and let's pop open this canned response type of reply. Unless it's really eating at you - and since others report the same thing - I'd be inclined not to let the dealer mess with things. I don't like them touching anything unless it's urgently necessary. You leaning that way?

Had no idea what you were talking about...and we're daily FedEx shippers, with FedEx boxes of all sizes stacked up on shelves here. Just googled it and there it is. Never saw it.

I noticed mine has it too but the only reason I noticed is because I looked for it and it doesn't bother me that much. Defiantly not worth having the dealer replace for me as chances are they will leave scratches on other trim doing the job as in my experience having the dealership do work in your interior is usually a one step forward, one step back experience where they scuff something.
