Crease forming on airbag

Anyone else experience this with their airbags?
I have it happening on both my M2 and 328.
Not only a safety concern but I think it looks ugly too.
You can clearly see both airbags have a half circle crease around the bmw logo:

Mine is not doing this... Complain to the dealer.

Do your M1/M2 buttons actually do anything on an OG car?

Initial intent was to use them as a valve controller but that proved to be too complex so they're just there for deco

That's not normal, it's obviously a cosmetic defect.. The dealer would definitely replace it under warranty, especially it being safety equipment.

However, if I am not mistaken, you changed the color of the center emblem on your M2; they might use that as excuse to say it's due to the change of that part contributed to the blemish, even though it didn't.. Not really sure.. But I've experienced worst pushback for less obvious issues..

Roll the dice, see what they say..

Lol I'd love to see them try. It's a vinyl sticker.

Update: just got back from my dealer and he pulled me over to a random F80 that was being returned to a customer and it had the exact same mark faintly appearing underneath the leather. He said it seems very common and that it wouldn't really be worth pursuing since it would probably just happen again with the next one overtime. I agreed and that was that. Just gonna leave it as is. Wondering if this happens to more of you overtime. It's not something that came as is from the factory. It showed up after 2+ years.

Well I won't be punching my horn that's for sure.

I have a blemish on the plastic right by my emergency brake they said that's normal showed me one inside the dealership that had the same thing I think it's a quality issue and the only reason I'm not having it fixed I don't want them tearing apart my car.

My car is less than a year old with 5k miles and I see a very slight semi circle. Definitely not as pronounced as yours but can definitely make out an outline in the right lighting.

Hardly, if ever. It's 100% a manufacturing defect, not user error/damage.

I actually looked more closely at mine today and noticed the same thing. 2018 with just about a year of ownership now. I've maybe used the horn once or twice the whole time? Kind of garbage.

Mine isn't as bad or going as far... Yet? If mine looked like yours I'd probably complain.

Yes, mine do illuminate. Has nothing to do with the buttons themselves, it's the actual harness that holds the buttons that needs to be replaced with the M3/M4 part.

Just looked at my 2016 M235i, faint half circle, same side as yours. Used the horn maybe twice? Not super worried about it, trading the car in in 2 months anyway.

Doesn't an airbag inflate slightly to a "ready" state when you start your car?

The crease is probably a result of the process.

To me, I never have noticed it. The crease is a small inconvenience for the benefit one would get from it should the need arise.

I would want an official statement from BMW that there is no design defect under the cover. Somebody needs to assess it and determine if it's an issue or not. To me it looks like there is a pressure being applied that is not supposed to happen or the cover has manufacturing defect. I'd want to know which one is it?

I've sent BMWNA an email and am waiting to hear back from them. Will post their response once I get it.

This is a big deal to those that have this. In order to rectify this the airbag has to be replaced since the cover is part of the air bag assembly.

An airbag is a pyrotechnic device and only goes off once, there is no way for it to inflate slightly.

I'd be worried the dealer would do more damage trying to fix whatever issue you've identified here.

I'm not concerned about that at all. It would just be an airbag replacement which would require them to unplug the battery and take the steering wheel off. Not that complicated and should only take about an hour at the most. I've done it multiple times.
